Ever since the release of Netflix's The Witcher and the next-gen update, CD Projekt Red, the developer of the critically acclaimed video game adaptation of The Witcher, has seen a resurgence of players for its most recent installment, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The Witcher 3 was also ported to the Nintendo Switch, which opened the game to an even wider player base than before.
The Witcher 3: The Hardest Decisions During Hearts of Stone (And Their Consequences)
The tough decisions don't end with The Witcher 3's base game; its story DLC, Hearts of Stone, has multiple dilemmas for players to wrestle with.
Of course, despite the boost provided by Netflix, The Witcher 3 itself is still considered a masterpiece by many, which is why many fans keep returning to the game. In addition to its immersive story and well-fleshed-out characters, the best swords in The Witcher 3 make combat even more enticing than before. Now, for those veteran players who are looking to do another playthrough of The Witcher 3 or for fans of the Netflix show who want to see what the video game adaptation has to offer, here are the best Steel and Silver Swords that players can find in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and its two expansion packs, Blood & Wine and Hearts of Stone.
Updated on January 28, 2025, by Gerardo Molina: The Witcher 3 is one of those games that has a considerable number of different silver and steel swords for players to choose from during their playthrough. While many can be wielded from level one, others will require players to grind and overcome obstacles throughout The Continent to level up and reach the prerequisites. Several of the swords on this list deal considerable physical damage and nothing else, whereas others hit like a truck and also have passive effects, including boosting Witcher Sign intensity, critical hit damage multipliers, and even freezing. The fastest way to get the most powerful weapons in the game is to complete main and side quests wherever possible.

Similar to the Ursine and Feline Swords, the Bloodsword focuses on physical damage rather than the utilization of signs and provides a significant boost to critical hit chance and damage, bleed chance, and dismemberment chance.
The Bloodsword can be obtained via two Scavenger hunt quests that will reward players with a diagram. The first quest is called Inheritance in Skellige, and the second is Battlefield Loot in Velen.

Iris is easily one of the best blades players can use in The Witcher 3, obtained at the end of the Hearts of Stone questline if players decide to save Olgierd von Everec's soul. This amazing sword flashes red during attacks, with certain strong attacks hitting critically while taking away 15% of Geralt's vitality in the process.
However, even if the blade isn't charged, hitting a strong attack means that players will deal double damage with each strike. As a result, many players recommend that players predominantly use strong strikes while fighting enemies using this sword, with light attacks being reserved for quicker enemies that can easily dodge the stronger variants.

The Viroledan Blade is a craftable Steel Sword suitable for the mid to late game in The Witcher 3. It has decent stats for its level, and three rune slots available for customization. But what makes it special, however, are its bonus perks. For starters, the Viroledan Blade comes with +75% critical hit damage bonus and +15% critical hit chance, making it highly suitable for critical hit builds. The cherry on top, however, is the +3% Chance for instant kill, giving Geralt a small chance to simply execute an opponent, regardless of their total health.
The recipe for the Viroledan Blade can be found in a chest in the Tulasens Caves, a location found in the eastern part of Toussaint, in the Blood and Wine DLC. The chest also contains recipes for two leg armor pieces as well. Players visit the Tulasens Caves in the “Knight for Hire” questline, which can be triggered from the notice board in the main city.

The main quest of Blood & Wine takes players to some exotic locations, such as the Tesham Mutna Ruins, where Geralt and Regis are thinking of ways to stop Dettlaff. Players will only visit this location once in the game, making it important to loot everything possible before leaving this area. This includes the entire Tesham Mutna set, which includes a pair of high-level trousers, armor, and a sword that can cut down most humanoid enemies with ease.
The Tesham Mutna steel sword is sleek, hits like a truck, and is packed to the brim with several passive benefits that make it one of the best swords in The Witcher 3. Players who miss out on this weapon will be distraught at the idea of not being able to use a blade that can hack most human and nonhuman enemies to smithereens.

It has both a crafted and dropped version, with the crafted version being more powerful. Longclaw is great against armored targets, as it has +50 armor piercing by default. In addition, it also increases the intensity of the Yrden sign by 30%, making it synergetic with sign builds.
The Longclaw diagram to unlock its crafting recipe can be found during the “In Wolf’s Clothing” quest in Skellige. Look for a locked door in Freya’s Garden, the sacred location Gerald will explore during this quest to find this recipe. There is also a chance of randomly finding the diagram in world chests.

The Witcher 3: The 28 Best Silver Swords, Ranked
While steel swords will carve through human enemies in The Witcher 3, silver swords will cut down any fearsome creature of legend.
One of the many valuable pieces of loot players can find in this area of the game is a steel sword called Vitis, which is found alongside a complete set of relic Toussaint armor. Players need to head to Longlocks' tower and find a Will o' the wisp that will lead players to this valuable loot. The equipment in Blood & Wine includes some of the most powerful weapons players can find in the game, with Vitis being a great example of the same.

Blade from the Bits is an often-overlooked weapon in The Witcher 3. A Steel sword, it used to be a fairly nondescript early-game weapon. However, as of Patch 4.0, this weapon now scales with Geralt’s level and has a full 3 rune slots for customization. This is in addition to the +50% Critical hit damage bonus that comes packaged in by default.
The Relic version of Blade from the Bits can be obtained by completing the “Of Swords and Dumplings” for Hattori, the blacksmith in Novigrad, right at the start of The Witcher 3. Players can also obtain Normal, Master, and Magic tier versions of this sword, but they have worse stats.

Another sword introduced in the Blood & Wine expansion that is a blast to use is the Gesheft. It helps that this sword is attained in one of the most memorable areas in the game: the Land of a Thousand Fables.
Players need to follow a pixie light after fighting the Cloud Giant to get this sword. The fact that Geralt kneels before a bonfire before acquiring this sword leads many people to believe that this powerful sword is an homage to the Dark Souls series.
