The Witcher 4 developer CD Projekt Red has added Warhorse Studios veteran Karel Kolmann to its ranks. Kolmann is joining the Polish company in a senior role after spending the better part of the last ten years working on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, with his arrival coinciding with The Witcher 4 ramping up development.

The fourth mainline entry in CDPR's hit RPG saga has been in the works since at least March 2022, when the developer said that the project was in pre-production. Two and a half years later, The Witcher 4 was treated to a cinematic reveal trailer confirming Ciri as its protagonist at The Game Awards.

KCD2 Senior Designer Confirms Move to The Witcher 4 Team

Though The Witcher 4 has been in full production since late 2024, CD Projekt Red appears to still be filling some key roles in the team, or at least scouting for senior talent. That’s suggested by Karel Kolmann joining the team following an eight-year stint at Czech Republic-based Warhorse Studios, where he served as a senior game designer, among other positions, during the development of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Kolmann himself confirmed the move on LinkedIn, as first spotted by Twitter user kaarxx_.

Kolmann joined Warhorse Studios in late 2017 as a writer and game designer. He was promoted to senior game designer in October 2021, according to his LinkedIn profile, and later advanced to lead gameplay designer in May 2025. He held that position for seven months, designing Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Hardcore mode during this period. As a senior game designer, he created 11 of the game's quests, including all dialogue writing and partial scripting. He also designed the game's crime system, which governs how NPCs respond to the player's less honorable actions.

The Witcher 4 May Have About as Many Sr. Quest Designers as The Witcher 3

Though CD Projekt Red is currently also working on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, code-named Project Orion, Kolmann's LinkedIn update saw him explicitly state he joined The Witcher 4 team, noting the position as remote. According to publicly available LinkedIn data reviewed by The Best War Games, more than a dozen CDPR employees currently list "senior quest designer" as their role, the same title held by Kolmann. That figure is roughly in line with The Witcher 3, which credited 16 senior quest designers, and notably higher than Cyberpunk 2077, which listed only six in that position, though it had over a dozen junior and otherwise non-senior quest designers.

These figures suggest the quantity of The Witcher 4's quests may be comparable to CD Projekt Red’s previous two big-budget titles. The overall content volume could be even notably higher if the studio chooses to outsource additional quest design work—an aspect that currently cannot be reliably tracked using public data, as freelancers are typically credited only after a given game's release, if at all. On that note, The Witcher 4 has yet to receive an official release window, but recent industry estimates place its likely debut sometime between 2027 and 2028.
