A wave of information about The Witcher Netflix show's second season is coming out as it begins pre-production. The Witcher's second season may not be arriving until 2021, but that doesn't mean the show's development isn't still moving forward. Today news broke about some of the second season's directors. These are those who will be responsible for individual episodes in The Witcher season 2. They include Edward Bazalgette, best known for his work on Doctor Who, and Sarah O'Gorman, who is also working on Netflix's upcoming show Cursed.

Bazalgette is the best known of the pair. His most recent work was for the Netflix show The Last Kingdom. He directed the show's final two episodes of the third season, both of which were exceptionally well-received.  His work on The Last Kingdom is likely the experience that helped him pick up The Witcher job. After that, his work on Doctor Who is definitely his most notable experience. Bazalgette directed four episodes during the Peter Capaldi Doctor Who years. His work includes the 2016 Christmas episode "The Return of Doctor Mysterio."

Sarah O'Gormon has a tremendous amount of experience working on shows for the United Kingdom market and the BBC. In 2019 she was involved with two shows, Jamestown and Death in Paradise, both of which she directed two episodes of. O'Gormon's biggest work has to be her most recent, however. She's working on Netflix's new show Cursed, which is based on the Arthurian legend. O'Gormon is directing the final two episodes of Cursed's first season.

Little is known about Bazalgette or O'Gormon's specific roles for season 2 of The Witcher beyond that they'll be directing specific episodes. Netflix, like many shows, typically assigns two episodes apiece to different directors and doesn't bring back most or all episode directors from previous seasons. A third director named Stephen Surjik, who has worked on Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Umbrella Academy, is also rumored to be one of The Witcher's episode directors for season 2.

With the addition of Bazalgette and O'Gormon, plus Surjik being rumored, that's likely 6 of 10 episodes being accounted for. It's growing more and more likely that season 1's directors won't be coming back for The Witcher's next season. All in all, with season 2 still being perhaps near a full year or more away, the news isn't hugely significant. For fans of the show, however, it's great to consider the talent coming together for what's become one of the most popular shows out there.

The Witcher is available to watch exclusively on Netflix.
