Witchfire does not like to hold hands, especially when it comes to understanding how elements and status effects work. You can combine different elements to activate powerful effects that play a huge role in mid-late content because clearing high Gnosis areas (familiars, bosses, vaults, etc.) Largely relies on how optimum your loadouts are.
The good thing is that almost every piece of gear (weapons, spells, relics, and rings) comes with a single elemental effect. You only need to know which ones to combine before tailoring your gameplay accordingly. Unfortunately, Witchfire does not list every elemental combination or explain what they do. This is by design, owing to its souls-like rogue-lite nature. While some elements are fairly straightforward to understand, others can be confusing, so the following guide will get you ready to beat the Witch's hordes in no time.
Witchery is an important stat to upgrade in Witchfire. It reduces the cooldowns of your light and heavy spells, allowing you to perform elemental combos more often.
Witchfire: Best Classes, Ranked
While they only impact your early game, their starting loadouts make some classes better than the rest in Witchfire.
All Elemental Status Effects in Witchfire
Witchfire has four status effects, one for each element, that can be applied to enemies in several ways. You can access elemental status effects by unlocking light and heavy spells. Some weapons like the Rotweaver have status effects by default at Mysterium level 1, while others like the Midas and Hailstorm must be upgraded to either Mysterium level 2 or 3.
Your magical items (relics, fetishes, rings) also come with status effects, but they take a while to unlock depending on your class in Witchfire. Lastly, do not forget about certain environmental objects that can be triggered to cause a status effect.
Enemies can also apply status effects, but they affect players a bit differently depending on the element.

All Elemental Combinations in Witchfire
Any two elements can interact with each other for bonus effects. It does not matter in what order the elements interact, or how. For example, you can use spells and weapons to combine different elements or even two different spells. Witchfire, however, does not explain what each elemental combination does. This is something left to the players to find out for themselves. You can either honor that design or check the list below to build the best loadout in Witchfire.
Sticking to only two elements also limits the Arcana pool to only reveal upgrades associated with your main elements.
|
Elemental Combination |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Fire + Ice |
Enemies explode to do massive damage in a radius. They are, however, unfrozen once the elements mix. |
|
Fire + Lightning |
Enemies take increased damage from lightning bolts. |
|
Fire + Decay |
Enemies take increased Decay damage per tick. |
|
Ice + Lightning |
Enemies emit lightning bolts more frequently upon taking damage. The lightning bolts also gain increased range. |
|
Ice + Decay |
Enemies only start taking Decay damage after they unfreeze, increasing the tick duration. |
|
Lightning + Decay |
Enemies emit lightning bolts with every Decay tick. |
Fire and Ice are one of the best elemental combinations in Witchfire. The resulting explosions can clear out an entire area within seconds, making it highly effective in closed environments such as the Wailing Tower or any of the Vaults.
You can try the combo using Burning Stake and Ice Stiletto/Frost Cone, which are also some of the best spells in Witchfire.
Witchfire: How to Get More Healing Elixirs
Finding it hard to survive expeditions with only a single potion? Here's how to carry more Healing Elixirs in Witchfire.
Every Elemental Weapon, Spell, and Item
Almost every piece of gear in Witchfire is associated with a certain element. Most of them can be researched from the Workshop, while others require you to access a new area or beat a boss after upgrading your Gnosis level. Hence, whatever your loadout, you will always trigger an elemental combo effect, unless you are sticking with a single element.
Since some combos are much stronger, you need to know what weapons, spells, and items belong to what element. This allows you to decide what gear to unlock and upgrade.
