Witchfire combines several genres to offer a souls-like first-person shooter with role-playing and rogue-lite elements. The ramping difficulty ceiling makes it important to upgrade your character right the first time. This includes leveling up different stats and attributes to make your character stronger. Since there is no way to respec your stats in Witchfire, knowing what each attribute does becomes critical or else you will be just wasting your hard-earned points.

Can You Switch Classes in Witchfire?

It is normal for newcomers to try to switch classes in Witchfire because some other class descriptions seem more appealing. Here's what to do.

How to Level Up in Witchfire

Witchfire - Ascension Shrine
You consume Witchfire to level up attributes at the Ascension Shrine.

Witchfire features a fairly unique progression system that handles experience points a bit differently than other games. Instead of experience, you farm volatile witchfire during expeditions. Consuming them at the Ascension Shrine in the Hermitorium, your player hub, is how you level up in Witchfire.

Each level-up means upgrading one of the six available stats, but the amount of volatile witchfire needed for each upgrade increases exponentially according to your current level. In other words, every attribute becomes more expensive to upgrade than the previous one.

If you have to complete multiple expeditions for a single stat upgrade, it is time to increase your Gnosis difficulty level in Witchfire. The higher the difficulty, the more voaltile witchfire you get.

While Witchfire does not limit you to how many times a stat can be leveled up, there needs to be a certain order based on your gameplay preference. In the end, though, you can level up each stat to 99 by farming the highest Gnosis difficulty level.

What Every Stat Does in Witchfire

Witchfire - Ascension Stats
You can upgrade six different stats to make yourself stronger in Witchfire.

Every stat in Witchfire is responsible for a certain character attribute. The upgrade improvements are minor, but stack up to make you incredibly strong (and worthy) for the end-game content.

Vitality

Vitality is one of the most important stats to prioritize in Witchfire. It increases your overall health points, allowing you to take more damage if necessary.

While the initial enemies on the Island of the Damned are fairly easy to beat, having a larger health bar becomes critical when playing higher-difficulty maps such as the Irongate Castle or after increasing your Gnosis level.

Increase your maximum health to around 140–150 HP before focusing on other stats.

Healing

Healing improves the efficiency and effectiveness of your healing items. You regenerate more health from healing elixirs and mushrooms in Witchfire. In addition, the healing duration is reduced to let you quickly heal during enemy encounters.

It is directly linked with Vitality because a single elixir will never completely heal a larger health bar. Since healing items are a luxury in the rogue-lite shooter, a high Healing stat ensures you only consume a single elixir to restore your entire health bar.

Healing should never be prioritized at the start. Save your volatile witchfire for other stats. Using good, upgraded weapons to take down enemies quicker is always better than relying on elixirs.

Endurance

Endurance improves your stamina in Witchfire, which, in turn, improves several critical gameplay aspects. You get to run and jump more before being exhausted. You regenerate stamina faster. Importantly, a high Endurance stat improves how far you can dash in Witchfire.

Endurance is another important stat you should prioritize early on in Witchfire. Even in lower-difficulty maps or areas, your survival chances diminish once stamina runs out. Having a large stamina bar allows you to run circles around enemies, dodge projectiles, dash in and out, and quickly retreat if necessary.

Dashing towards an enemy with a full stamina bar reveals their red orbs. Shoot them to stun enemies and amplify your damage.

Witchfire: How To Increase Research Speed

Waiting around for research to finish can be a literally eternal process in Witchfire unless players know how to accelerate the speed.

Witchery

Witchery is responsible for your spell cooldowns in Witchfire. Your light and heavy spells recharge faster, allowing you to spam them more during enemy encounters.

Keep in mind that spells can be combined for various elemental effects. In situations where you are pitted against enemy swarms, your spells might prove more useful in clearing out the area than your weapons. That said, only upgrade Witchery once you have improved your other stats in Witchfire.

Spells recharge through combat. Staying idle does nothing to their cooldown timers.

Metanoia

Metanoia is one of the best early-game stats to upgrade in Witchfire. It increases the amount of volatile witchfire enemies drop upon death, including when you Absorb Manifestations.

Since each level-up becomes more expensive than the previous one, dumping points in Metanoia early on helps you level up faster. To give an idea of its importance, 15 Metanoia will let you reach levels 18-20 within 3 hours of gameplay by just spamming the Island of the Damned.

Metanoia must be leveled up to at least 10 before you start obtaining bonus volatile witchfire.

Luck

Luck is an attribute that must be upgraded in the early- and late-game portions of Witchfire. While the Ascension Shrine contains no details, Luck improves the quantity and quality of items found during expeditions. You get to find more demonic ammo in Witchfire, for example. Chests have a higher chance of dropping gold coins. When playing at higher Gnosis levels, Luck also affects the frequency of Calamities and the drop rate of various rare treasures.
