On the heels of Superman’s success in theaters, the in-production Wonder Woman movie for the DCU has received an exciting update. Wonder Woman, or Princess Diana of Themyscira and her civilian name Diana Prince, first appeared in All Star Comics #8 in 1941 as a demigod and Justice League member. The character had previously been portrayed by Lynda Carter during the 70s television series, and Gal Gadot in various projects, including Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and now, it’s time for the Lasso of Truth to pass to another actor.

Unfortunately, Wonder Woman was one DC character that very nearly had a standalone video game, joining a slew of other canceled superhero games, including Cliffhanger Games’ open-world Black Panther action-adventure, Warner Bros. Games Montreal’s Batman Beyond project designed to be part of the Arkhamverse, and Factor 5’s "Blue Steel", thought to be a long-overdue modern Superman game. Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman game hooked fans’ interest when it was announced through a cinematic trailer, but the game was canceled this year after the developer dissolved.

DCU's Wonder Woman Movie Hires Supergirl and Teen Titans Writer Ana Nogueira

Reported by TheWrap, it was announced that Ana Nogueira was set to write the Wonder Woman reboot for DC Studios. This is an exciting update for the comic-book fandom, as Nogueira is also penning a live-action Teen Titans movie for the studio as well, on top of having already written Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl script, starring House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock, as the writer’s first produced screenplay based on Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Back in June, James Gunn confirmed the screenplay for DCU’s Wonder Woman project was in progress, and the boss also said the television series Paradise Lost, revolving around Diana’s native Themyscira, was “slow moving, but it’s moving.” Previously, Nogueira worked as an actor, in the likes of The Vampire Diaries and The Blacklist, and considering the professional is being trusted to pen so many DC projects, it suggests Diana Prince is in safe hands with someone who could offer a fresh perspective.

As with any superhero role, intense fan casting has been underway within the community, with fans debating who the next Wonder Woman will be after Gal Gadot’s portrayal. One Andor actor has been the frontrunner for a while in the community’s mind, and Adria Arjona was recently brought to life as Diana in an impressive piece of fan art. Other actors in the running include Scream star Melissa Barrera and Moon Knight’s May Calamawy. However, speculation ignited recently when Gunn followed Katherine Langford from 13 Reasons Why on social media, fueling rumors that the 29-year-old could be the next Princess.

Despite the Snyderverse era delivering a fairly popular Wonder Woman movie from Patty Jenkins, the sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, was not warmly received. Even Pedro Pascal recently admitted he made a major physical change after 1984, where he played villain Maxwell Lord. Since Gunn and the DC Studios team are seemingly casting slightly younger iterations of the Justice League characters, going by David Corenswet’s fresh-faced Clark Kent and even Aaron Pierre's Jon Stewart in the upcoming Lanterns compared to Ben Affleck's Batman, it’s safe to assume the Wonder Woman casting will follow the same pattern.
