While Wordle's popularity appears to be on a downswing since the New York Times purchased it, it still shows up everywhere. It's easy-to-access, easy-to-play, and offers players a new puzzle every day at midnight local time. Even so, there are many word puzzle fans out there who have yet to try it and don't know how it works just yet, and so here is a quick breakdown of the rules of the game.

Wordle and all its clones and copycats are based on the same basic set of rules: type in a five-letter real English word, hit enter, and the letter will change colors based on whether they are correct or not.

Green letters are right.
Gray are wrong.
Yellow letters are in the puzzle somewhere, but are currently in the wrong place.

Players get a grand total of six tries to get to the correct word before they lose. After the puzzle is completed, successfully or not, players will get access to the stats menu.
