Wordle is a popular word puzzle game that went viral back in early 2022. With its fairly basic rules and captivating premise, this short daily game quickly became the basis for loads of Wordle clones and copycats. In this article, the answers and rules will only be for the original version of Wordle which can be found on the New York Times Games website or the New York Times Crossword app only. Here's how to play:

First, choose a starting word. All Wordle guesses must be real, five-letter words. They cannot be offensive words or proper nouns. While they can be used as guesses, it's best to avoid previous Wordle answers or plural nouns ending in S or ES, as these cannot be answers. The best starting words have five different letters in them with two or three vowels. Getting a good starter word in Wordle will help players to get off on the right foot and make winning a whole lot easier, so be sure to choose carefully.
Once the best starting Wordle word has been chosen, type it into the site or app.
Press enter; this will cause the letters of the starter to change colors.
Here's what each of the three colors means: green letters are right and in the right place in the word, gray letters are incorrect, and yellow letters are right but in the wrong place in the word.
Players need to come up with a new word that fits the color-coded hints from the first word. Type it into the next line in the Wordle grid; these letters will also change colors.
Players have a total of six tries to get to the real answer.
There is only one word for everyone every day, and that puzzle resets daily at midnight local time.
After the puzzle is completed, the menu will pop up, giving players access to the countdown clock to the next puzzle, the player's stats, and even a spoiler-free share button.
