How To Play Wordle
Wordle is a browser-based word game with a big following. This simple little puzzle game flooded many social media feeds with tons of little yellow and green squares earlier this year. Wordle's massive popularity and quick play spawned many clones and niche copycats, making it one of the most popular games of early 2022. It was so popular, in fact, that it was even purchased by the New York Times Games. And yet, not everyone has had a chance to try this viral game, so here is a quick breakdown of the rules.
First, head to the NYT Games Wordle site, and then choose a starting word. Wordle answers are:
- Never proper nouns.
- Always five-letters long.
- Always real English words.
- Are usually only American words.
- Are not offensive words.
- Are never plural nouns ending in S.
- Cannot be a word that was already a Wordle answer.
Once a good starting word is chosen with these rules in mind, type it into the first row of the Wordle website and press enter. The letters of the chosen word will then change colors, giving players clues to the real answer of the day.
- Letters that turn green are right and in the right place in the word.
- Letters that turn yellow are right but in the wrong place in the word.
- Gray letters are incorrect and won't be in the answer.
Given these clues players have just six total tries to get to the answer. Puzzles reset daily at midnight local time.
