- Season of Discovery will continue even after the last update, allowing players to keep their characters and items.
World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery recently teased some huge stuff coming for the experimental Realms, including a “larger than life” encounter that it has been building to for some time. While players can only speculate as to what this might be, fans of these World of Warcraft servers can expect to keep finding new things in Season of Discovery for a long while.
Blizzard only recently began Phase 4 of World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery. As the first endgame update for the experimental servers, Phase 4 of Season of Discovery added the first completely original content to WoW Classic Season of Discovery in the form of The Molten Core boss within the eponymous raid and the Demon Fall Canyon dungeon.
World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery Phase 4 Has a Surprise for Druids
World of Warcraft Classic Druids lucky enough to obtain a rare item in Season of Discovery Phase 4 have a special surprise waiting for them.
However, WoW Classic is already talking about what’s next for Season of Discovery. During a recent interview with WoW Classic content creator Ebonhardt, senior game producer Josh “Aggrend” Greenfield and assistant lead classic designer Tim Jones teased a number of new things for Season of Discovery’s future. WoW Classic Season of Discovery has officially gotten direct support from the main art team to make The Molten Core boss, opening doors for creating original content for the Realms. This includes the most ominous and exciting thing they mentioned: a “larger than life” encounter that ties into something players are doing now, and that it will build towards during the next phase.
What’s Next for WoW Classic Season of Discovery?
- Raid tier phases will be longer than four weeks, but less than three months long.
- New bosses and original content like Demon Fall Canyon in WoW Classic Season of Discovery could appear in the future, including an upcoming "larger than life encounter."
- Season of Discovery will exist as it is for a while, even after the last update.
- Characters won’t be going to normal Classic Era servers once Season of Discovery ends.
- Fans won’t lose their characters, items, and special abilities.
There is no saying what this “larger than life” encounter may be quite yet. It could involve the Shadowy Figure – a mysterious benefactor who has appeared multiple times in Season of Discovery, and who many fans suspect is Xal’atath from WoW: The War Within. Alternatively, the devs hinted that the BlizzCon announcement for Season of Discovery might hold clues for future phases. The panel had a screenshot of the crypts of Kharazan, meaning players could see a boss fight against Medivh, the Last Guardian.
Regardless, the developers confirmed they plan to keep Season of Discovery going long after its final update, and it won’t be moving characters to normal Classic Era servers once it is over. Fans can safely expect to see some awesome things in Season of Discovery’s future – and once the World of Warcraft experiment is over, they will be able to keep playing their characters without losing all of their cool items and abilities.
