World of Warcraft Classic has officially revealed that Phase 8 of Season of Discover kicks off on April 8, with the new Scarlet Enclave raid and Legendary weapon questline opening two days later on April 10. This Season of Discovery phase marks the first one that is full of entirely original World of Warcraft content, so fans won’t want to miss out on the update.
On January 28, World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery began Phase 7. This update added Naxxramas, the final raid from the original game, leading many to believe the end of the experimental servers was nigh. However, World of Warcraft later confirmed an eighth phase was coming, and that even more might come after.

Now, World of Warcraft has officially revealed when the new Classic Season of Discovery update will arrive. On April 8, the experimental servers will enter Phase 8, starting with a batch of outdoor and profession content in New Avalon. First introduced as a Scarlet Crusade outpost in the Death Knight starting experience from World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, this town appears for the first time in Vanilla World of Warcraft, where heroes team up with a splinter faction of the Scarlet Crusade to go behind enemy lines and gain the trust of the citizenry, earning crafting recipes, new rewards, and more.
WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 8 Release Dates
- April 8 – New outdoor content, profession content in New Avalon, and Scarlet Enclave-related quests.
- April 10 – Scarlet Enclave Raid and Legendary weapon questline (available at 1 PM PDT)
Then, on April 10, the Scarlet Enclave raid opens. An evil presence has taken over the Scarlet headquarters at Tyr’s Hand, and between 20 and 40 players will need to band together to fight the eight bosses found within. Datamining suggests fans will encounter some familiar faces in the raid, such as the living version of World of Warcraft Forsaken leader Lilian Voss, so players should be prepared for anything.
Were that not exciting enough, a new Legendary weapon questline for Warriors, Hunters, and Paladins will open at the same time as the raid. Though Blizzard was coy about what this “fallen weapon” is, it is almost certainly the iconic Ashbringer two-handed sword, and hints discovered on the World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery PTR suggest fans may go to Mount Hyjal in order to purify it.
Season of Discovery has introduced original instances in the past, such as the Molten Core boss within the eponymous raid or the Karazhan Crypts dungeon from WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 7. That said, Phase 8 is the first Season of Discovery patch that is full of completely original content, making it one of the most unique and exciting World of Warcraft Classic updates to date.
