Warning: Spoilers for Dragonflight: Guardians of the Dream below.
On the World of Warcraft Patch 10.2.5 Public Test Realm, the new Night Elf city of Bel’ameth is being built, including a number of portals connecting it to other places in Azeroth. Beyond simple convenience, this new feature proves the World of Warcraft race isn’t abandoning their homelands on Kalimdor for Amirdrassil–one of the biggest fears many players had about the new storyline.
The main plot of Patch 10.2, Guardians of the Dream, was the defense of Amirdrassil, the World Tree that would become a new home for the Night Elves in World of Warcraft. In the epilogue, Amirdrassil moved to Azeroth proper, just east of the Dragon Isles. Bel’ameth, the new city located on Amirdrassil, immediately began construction, but many fans were worried the Night Elves would be forced to abandon their ancestral homes on Kalimdor in favor of this new place.
Luckily, some details from the Patch 10.2.5 PTR have dispelled this particular fear. World of Warcraft fan and PTR explorer Portergauge was among those who discovered several portals located within the growing city of Bel’ameth. Using them, players can quickly travel to and from Stormwind, as well as multiple major locations on Kalimdor important to the Night Elves. While these portals are a huge convenience for fast travel in World of Warcraft, it also proves that Night Elves aren’t moving out of Kalimdor either.
What Portals Connect to Bel'ameth in World of Warcraft?
- Stormwind: the capital and main hub of the Alliance in World of Warcraft.
- Hyjal: the location of Nordrassil, the sister World Tree to Amirdrassil.
- Darkshore: near where Teldrassil, the destroyed World Tree, was planted.
- Val’sharah: near the Dreamgrove, Temple of Elune, and Grove of Cenarius.
- Feralas: where Feathermoon Stronghold and the Shen’dralar Highbourne are from.
Were that not enough proof, many friendly World of Warcraft NPCs can be seen wandering around Bel’ameth and the surrounding areas. While some are new settlers on Amirdrassil, many are visitors from places like Hyjal and Val’sharah, implying they still make their homes elsewhere.
Night Elf fans were glad to see World of Warcraft add this piece of worldbuilding to the game. For some, the otherwise beautiful epilogue for the Night Elves was marred by the fear that they would be forced to move to the Dragon Isles, so proof of the opposite is most welcome. While some still wish Amirdrassil would have been located closer to Kalimdor in the first place, these portals prove that they aren’t simply turning their back on the past–and that Bel’ameth is going to be a major hub city in the future of World of Warcraft.
