World of Warcraft has finally unveiled “Legacies,” the animated companion shorts coming for the Dragonflight expansion. The first of the new motion stories will launch alongside the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Pre-Patch on October 25.
Every expansion since Mists of Pandaria has featured a series of animated shorts that act as companions to the new chapters in World of Warcraft. Each series contains between three and six episodes, each of which is a few minutes long. The shorts provide integral backstories to the major players of each expansion and have become almost as highly anticipated as their full cinematic counterparts.
The framework of “Legacies” seems to be Nozdormu, aspect of the Bronze Dragonflight, speaking with Emberthal, one of the major Scalecommanders of the Dracthyr. After emerging from their slumber after 10,000 years, the Dracthyr have a lot to catch up on. Each of the shorts will focus on Nozdormu sharing the history of the dragonflights with Emberthal. While the exact stories haven’t been confirmed, the teaser shows scenes of the rise of the Aspects after beating Galakrond, the fall of Deathwing, the War of the Ancients, the imprisonment of the Dracthyr, and the history of the Primal Incarnates.
Since the first episode airs on October 25, players can expect the next episodes to air subsequently over the next several Tuesdays. If there are four shorts, the final one would air on November 15–the same date as the second phase of the Dragonflight Pre-Patch. Since that is the same date when Dracthyr will become playable, and the Primal Storms Pre-Patch event will be live in World of Warcraft, such a schedule would be the perfect companion to the Dragonflight release.
Many players can’t wait to see the new “Legacies” shorts in full. Players have wondered if World of Warcraft would be releasing a series of motion shorts for Dragonflight, and are delighted to find they are airing so soon. Nozdormu is one of the most mysterious of the Dragon Aspects in World of Warcraft, so featuring him as the narrator of the shorts will provide some fascinating insight into the lore of the dragons and Dracthyr.
With Dragonflight’s release about a month away, World of Warcraft fans are buzzing with anticipation for the new expansion. In addition to the new zones and story, Dragonflight is revamping the profession system and UI, and bringing back Talent Trees. World of Warcraft players won’t have to wait long to explore the storied Dragon Isles and see what Dragonflight has in store for them.
World of Warcraft is available now for PC. Dragonflight launches on November 28.
