If there's one thing in World of Warcraft that deserves a serious glow-up, it's the character selection screen, and a talented fan has put together an amazing proof-of-concept on how to do just that. Players love to create a wide array of champions to roam the lands of Azeroth with, and character slots in World of Warcraft are precious and often expanded to fit this ever-growing list. However, ever since Cataclysm improved upon the racial backgrounds seen on the character selection screen, the feature has largely remained untouched for the past twelve years.

Allied races in World of Warcraft such as Vulpera and Lightforged Draenei, having been introduced to the game somewhat recently, have extremely detailed and flavorful character selection screens. Older races, such as Night Elves or Tauren, suffer by comparison. The modernity of backgrounds that Demon Hunters or Evokers enjoy unfortunately only serve to highlight how outdated many of these screens have become over the long list of expansions that came out since Cataclysm.

Though World of Warcraft delivered yet another stunning login screen in Dragonflight, many fans still have their favorites such as the forever-iconic Dark Portal or the Mogu statues from Mists of Pandaria. As a result, the community often requested the ability to select their favorite login screen, but Blizzard has never quite committed to the idea so far. A concept video created by Tehquo combines these two requests, depicting how a more modern login experience would look like in World of Warcraft.

The YouTube video garnered significant traction across the World of Warcraft community, particularly on Twitter, with many fans once again imploring Blizzard to consider modernizing the character selection screen. From being able to choose the login screen, to getting stunning new racial (and class) backgrounds, to changing their character's pose, or showcasing their favorite mount. For many World of Warcraft players, it's the character selection menu of their dreams, and this fully-realized concept by Tehquo shows how Blizzard would be able to implement it in the future.

While one can't help but ask if it's prudent to spend developer resources on a screen that players solely use in facilitating their entrance into the world of Azeroth, many would also make the obvious counter-argument. The average player loves to sit back and bask in their created characters every once in a while, listening to World of Warcraft's heart-stirring main menu music. Adding a modern spin that properly lets players showcase their champions would go a long way towards making them feel even more at home in-game, and would certainly be a concept worth exploring for the team at Blizzard.

World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
