With Patch 9.2.5, World of Warcraft players can do dungeons, raids, and PvP across the faction divide between the Alliance and Horde for the first time in nearly 20 years. World of Warcraft recently sent a special offer to select players with a way to get a free faction change token by inviting inactive players back to the game. The offer was seemingly sent out to randomly-selected active World of Warcraft players around June 10. The email encourages those players to “get friends back in action on any faction,” and has an offer to claim a free faction change–a service that usually costs $30.RELATED: Blizzard Announces Server Merges for World of Warcraft Burning Crusade Classic To claim this offer, a player must invite at least one player who has not had an active World of Warcraft subscription since May 31 using the special link in the email. That player–and up to four others–will receive 30 free days of game time without the need to re-subscribe, though the offer must be accepted within 14 days. The offer ends on June 21, so active WoW players who are interested in participating in the promotion should check their emails before then.

At the beginning of June, Blizzard ran a sale on faction changes and realm transfers to celebrate the end of the Faction War in World of Warcraft. The sale ran for the first week of June, and discounted these services by about 30%. With this new promotion, it seems World of Warcraft is not finished marketing its new cross-faction capabilities.

Many World of Warcraft players were eager to get their hands on the free faction transfers and game time alike. With cross-faction raiding now available, many players who were forced to play Alliance or Horde to raid with their friends can now play on the faction they want. Other inactive players have heard the positive reports from Shadowlands Patch 9.2.5 and want to come back and see what direction World of Warcraft is going, but did not want to resubscribe just yet.

However, other players are frustrated with World of Warcraft’s promotion. The offer seems to have been given to players at random, meaning some who would have loved to participate did not get the email. Others who have already sent out their invites to other players have yet to receive their rewards. Blizzard mentioned in the promotion email that it may take some time to hand out the rewards, so hopefully these players will get them within a few days, if not shortly after the promotion period is over on June 21.

World of Warcraft is available now on PC.
