The story campaign of World of Warcraft: Midnight will feature a chapter focused on Arator Windrunner that will take heroes to several old world locations, including Light’s Hope Chapel and Stratholme. While fans were well aware that they would be going to iconic zones like Quel’Thalas, World of Warcraft players will see many other classic locations as well.

World of Warcraft: Midnight was officially revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live. This exciting expansion introduces four new zones to the game, including a revamped version of Silvermoon City and Eversong – the home of the Blood Elves – and Zul’Aman, the domain of the Forest Trolls previously only seen in a raid.

WoW: Midnight Arator Chapter Goes to Old Azeroth Zones

That said, fans will go to other familiar zones on their adventures in Midnight as well. BennyCentral spoke to World of Warcraft senior game director Ion Hazzikostas and associate director Paul Kubit during the Xbox Gamescom Day 1 Broadcast. Kubit talked about the Midnight campaign, which starts in Eversong, moves to either Zul’Aman or Harandar, and then ends in the Voidstorm. However, alongside Zul’Aman and Harandar, players will also have a third chapter focused on Arator Windrunner – son of Alleria and Turalyon – that will visit several old locations on Azeroth.

According to Kubit, this Arator chapter will go back to Light’s Hope Chapel – the location of the Death Knight’s rebellion against Arthas in WoW: Wrath of the Lich King and the Paladin Order Hall in Legion – plus the doomed city of Stratholme and “a couple of other interesting places." The heroes of Azeroth will accompany Arator on this journey as he “interrogates his relationship with the Light,” which will lead into the final chapter of the base expansion.

This new story chapter is unprecedented as far as recent World of Warcraft expansions are concerned. While fans have visited old zones in the main story in the past, such as the Zandalar sections of WoW Patch 11.1, there has not been a full chapter of a base expansion campaign set outside the new zones. Likewise, there have been major storylines that took place entirely in old zones, such as the WoW Patch 11.1.7 campaign in the Arathi Highlands, but they have never been a required part of the main narrative.

This isn’t the only place where Midnight is breaking the mold. World of Warcraft’s new Devourer Demon Hunter specialization is blurring the lines between melee and ranged in ways that not even the Retribution Paladin or Unholy Death Knight have before. Players will have to wait and see what other surprising ways Midnight shifts the MMO’s paradigm.
