World of Warcraft may have just teased a third Demon Hunter specialization while showing off one of the boss encounters in the new raid from Patch 11.2. While nothing has been confirmed yet, a Demon Hunter council battle in Manaforge Omega could hide a clue for something big in the future for the class originally introduced in the Legion expansion for World of Warcraft.
Blizzard just recently revealed World of Warcraft Patch 11.2, titled Ghosts of K’aresh. This major update takes fans to the eponymous, Void-shattered homeland of the Ethereals and Brokers. While the patch contains tons of new content, one of its most exciting parts is Manaforge Omega, the Season 3 raid that culminates in a cosmic confrontation against Dimensius, the All-Devouring – the Void Lord responsible for destroying the planet in the first place.
World of Warcraft Reveals Third Turbulent Timeways Event Schedule and Rewards
World of Warcraft begins its third Turbulent Timeways event, featuring multiple weeks of experience buffs, rewards, and new Timewalking dungeons.
While discussing the new raid during the reveal WoWCast episode, lead encounter designer Drew De Sousa described one of the boss encounters as “a mysterious council of Demon Hunters who have found their way onto K’aresh.” One of these Demon Hunters wears lighter armor and traditional Warglaives indicative of the Havoc spec, while the other has heavier gear and curved Warblades associated with Vengeance. However, the third is conspicuously unlike any existing Demon Hunter specialization in World of Warcraft, wielding shadow-infused weapons and wearing armor more evocative of the Shadowguard Ethereals. This could be a teaser for an unannounced third specialization.
Could a Third Demon Hunter Specialization Come in WoW Patch 11.2?
Most classes in World of Warcraft have three specializations players can choose from. Druids and Demon Hunters are the exception, with the former having four and the latter only having two: the damage-dealing Havoc and the tanky Vengeance. Beyond when Druids had their Feral Cat and Bear forms split into two specs, Blizzard had never added brand-new specializations to the game until the addition of the Augmentation Evoker in WoW: Dragonflight Patch 10.1.5. Some Augmentation abilities were even teased in the Sarkareth battle from Patch 10.1 – something World of Warcraft could theoretically be doing in 11.2.
There is a dearth of dedicated Shadow damage-dealing classes in WoW. While Death Knights, Hunters, and Rogues use it, only specializations like Affliction Warlock and Shadow Priest focus on Shadow damage in World of Warcraft, meaning there is a lot of design space for a melee-focused Void spec – which this theoretical third Demon Hunter specialization could fill.
That said, it is important to note this teaser could amount to nothing. There is a good chance this council fight is just an exciting encounter, and that there are no plans to add new specializations to Demon Hunter. Even so, the very presence of Demon Hunters in the raid is enough to excite many fans of the class – and the specialization speculation will only add fuel to the hype.
