Summary

  • World of Warcraft fans can participate in unique experiences like Plunderstorm and WoW Remix.
  • WoW Remix started strong with Mists of Pandaria nostalgia, but Warlords of Draenor as the next expansion could be controversial.
  • Blizzard faces a tough decision on the future of WoW Remix, needing to address past issues and player feedback.

Right now, it feels like a pretty exciting time to be a fan of World of Warcraft. Not only is Blizzard preparing to kick off a brand-new era of expansions, but it has also begun experimenting with all sorts of unique variations on the core experience. Outside of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight and World of Warcraft: Classic, fans have been treated to the wild PvP experience of Plunderstorm and the brand-new fast-paced leveling adventure of WoW Remix. Both have been mostly well received, but one mode may be facing an incredibly tough future.

While Blizzard has yet to reveal what the future of these two modes entails, based on the reception, there is a strong chance that these are not the last players see them. That being said, if the developer decides to continue down the WoW Remix path, the next expansion may not go over as well with players. But, skipping over said expansion also feels like a strange decision. So, it may be facing an impossible decision once The War Within comes to a close.

WoW Remix May Have a Tough Time In the Future

WoW Remix Started With a Fan-Favorite Expansion

After years of WoW's standard leveling, WoW Remix was a breath of fresh air for many. For starters, it sped up the leveling process considerably, which has made leveling alts extremely fast. On top of that, Blizzard has given players powerful new abilities and stat bonuses to blow through the content at even faster speeds. And if that was not enough, it has also given them the ability to acquire dozens of new and old cosmetics to add to their collection. But the best part may be the expansion that ties them all together.

Over the years, Mists of Pandaria has become a fan-favorite expansion within the World of Warcraft community. The zones were beautiful to explore, the story was thrilling, and the actual leveling process was a breeze. Additionally, the expansion's major updates took them on a fantastic adventure that culminated in the thrilling Siege of Orgrimmar. Everything about it worked, with many yearning to return to that type of content for years. And while Dragonflight felt pretty similar, it still did not compare to Mists of Pandaria.

The Next WoW Remix Expansion Left Much to be Desired

Players seem to be loving the grand return of Mists of Pandaria, and even though there were a few bumps at launch, the core WoW Remix experience has been very well received. However, if Blizzard chooses to continue this trend, there is a chance that it does not go over as well. Unless the studio does not follow WoW's release schedule, the next expansion in line would be Warlords of Draenor. And even though it may have had some interesting mechanics, it is often considered one of the worst expansions the game has ever gotten.

Warlords of Draenor was when Blizzard adopted some of the game's most controversial mechanics. Specifically, it was the first iteration of the mission table, which became the primary focus of the entire expansion. In fact, the story made players spend a lot of their time within their very own Garrison, which acted as a form of player housing. Yet, it also made the game feel far less like an MMO and more like a single-player experience.

Along with the mission table, Warlords of Draenor was also when players came to notice the considerable grind within the game's many systems, the story was rough around the edges, and an entire major patch of content was cut. Because of all of that, many players were left wanting more. And while Legion was able to pick up much of the slack, the community does not look back on this era fondly.

So, although Blizzard has not said what the future of WoW Remix will hold, Warlords of Draenor should naturally be the next in line. If it chooses to do this expansion next, then it needs to ensure it is able to deliver another thrilling experience that also fixes some of the expansion's biggest issues. Because if it does not, players may just ignore this next phase completely.
