Summary

  • The new Warbands character selection screen in The War Within has changed how players use paid character services in World of Warcraft.
  • All characters, regardless of Realm, are now listed together on the character selection screen, making it easier for players to manage their toons.
  • Players must select their character's home Realm from the list to access paid character services, ensuring they are on the correct server.

World of Warcraft recently released a guide showing players the importance of selecting the right Realm while using paid services with the new Warbands character selection screen in The War Within. Using Character Transfers, Faction Changes, and other paid game services with this new display in The War Within could be confusing, as it is a little different from what World of Warcraft players are used to.

Though the Pre-Expansion Update for The War Within adds tons of new features to World of Warcraft, few are as game-changing as the Warbands system. One part of these alt-friendly quality-of-life improvements is the first thing WoW fans see when they log on after the patch, as the character selection screen is completely different. Characters from every Realm are collated together in one convenient list that includes a search bar, extra information, and even a charming scene where up to four characters can rest together near a campfire.

World of Warcraft: The War Within Might Try Something New With the Login Screen

World of Warcraft may be doing something new with the login screen for The War Within that has never been done before in the game's long history.

That said, this new character selection screen also changes how players use paid character services. The tokens for Character Transfers, Level Boosts, Race Changes, and Faction Changes can now be found in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. However, when selecting them, some characters may be grayed out and be unavailable for the service. World of Warcraft explained that, in order to use a service on these characters, fans must simply navigate to the Realms list and select the one the character is on. This sets the server as their “active” one, allowing them to use paid character services on toons found in that Realm.

How Character Services Work in WoW: The War Within

  • The new character selection screen added in the World of Warcraft: The War Within Pre-Patch shows all characters on a singular list, regardless of Realm.
  • When using Character Transfer, Level Boost, Race Change, or Faction Change token, characters may be grayed out.
  • Selecting the character’s home Realm from the list, accessed at the top of the screen, will allow them to use paid character services.

This is the same method players will now use to create new characters on specific Realms as well. Before making an alt, their current active Realm pops up near the Create Character button, ensuring they have the right server selected. This is only necessary while using services or creating new World of Warcraft characters. However, players can log in to toons on any Realm from this new screen, regardless of which one they have active.

That said, there are a few paid character services that have been retired in World of Warcraft: The War Within. Guild Realm Transfers, Guild Faction Transfers, and Paid Character Transfers between linked Battle.net accounts have been permanently removed as of the Pre-Patch. The free Character Restoration service has also been temporarily disabled, but fans should expect it to return in a few weeks.
