Summary

  • World of Warcraft's Valorstones are now transferable between characters in a Warband, but with a 25% tax.
  • The tax penalty for transferring Valorstones has received mixed reviews from players.
  • Fans will still be able to gear up alts more easily during the upcoming Turbo Boost despite the Valorstone tax.

World of Warcraft is making Valorstones transferable starting with the Season 2 Turbo Boost, but there is a 25% tax when moving them between characters. Players should be aware of this caveat before they start moving Valorstones across their World of Warcraft Warband once the Turbo Boost begins on May 13.

Blizzard is introducing a brand-new gearing event called the WoW: The War Within Season 2 Turbo Boost on May 13. Until the start of Season 3 in Patch 11.2, fans can enjoy a significant boost to the gearing process across the board, with greater rewards from instanced content, expanded Hero and Myth upgrade tracks, and even the Dinar-like Puzzling Cartel Chip system. This update will also allow Valorstones to be transferable between all characters in a Warband.

World of Warcraft Teases Mysterious New Game Mode

During PAX East, World of Warcraft teases a brand-new separate game mode that will be played within the game client similarly to Plunderstorm.

However, there is a catch with this feature that World of Warcraft didn’t mention beforehand. Though Valorstones can be traded between characters, it does not come without a cost: there is a 25% tax on the currency exchange. This means a player hoping to transfer 100 Valorstones from one character to another will actually need to spend a total of 125 in order to do so. Fans will need to be careful while moving this currency, as there is no way to retrieve lost Valorstones if one moves too much, or transfers it from the wrong toon.

Valorstone Transfers in WoW Come With 25% Penalty

Needless to say, players were not happy to discover this caveat. Valorstones are already an unpopular part of the gear upgrade system in WoW, and the penalty for transferring them has done little to change that. While some have taken solace in the fact they can be moved at all, many would have preferred the cap be raised or removed, or the currency itself completely deleted in favor of only using Crests.

Luckily, fans should still be able to manage, even with this penalty. Valorstone sources are quite abundant already, and players will be getting even more after the World of Warcraft: The War Within Season 2 Turbo Boost goes live. The tax is less than ideal, but fans will still have an easier time gearing up their alts during the Turbo Boost.

It is important to note that this penalty was first discovered on the Public Test Realm. This means it could technically be changed or removed before the Turbo Boost starts on May 13, though it will most likely make it live. Players will have to see if World of Warcraft adjusts this penalty in the future before the start of World of Warcraft: The War Within Season 3 later this summer.
