After Blizzard won audiences back with the launch of Dragonflight, World of Warcraft is set to take 2024 by storm. Not only can players expect content updates to cap off Dragonflight, but the Worldsoul Saga is also set to begin this year. While it remains to be seen if all of this content is truly worth it, World of Warcraft fans seem extremely excited about what is in store for Azeroth.

Since WoW is an MMO, players can expect many content updates throughout the year as Blizzard continues to give players reasons to keep coming back for more. WoW's 2024 roadmap mostly lays out everything major coming to the game, but there are probably many secrets yet to be revealed as well, which makes it a great time to be a fan.

WoW Dragonflight is Coming to An End

Seeds of Renewal Launches This Winter

The first big update coming to WoW this year is the Seeds of Renewal patch, which launches January 16. This update will bring with it new stories, mechanics, and a few surprising mechanics. Additionally, it will also include the Hearthstone anniversary event for all those that celebrate.

One of the biggest pieces of content coming with the Seeds of Renewal update are new stories. First, players will be treated to the Dragonflight epilogue, which will wrap up any lingering story threads on the Dragon Isles before Blizzard begins prepping Azeroth for The War Within. Then, players will finally be able to reclaim Gilneas a decade after it was first introduced to WoW. While the exact details of these stories have not been revealed quite yet, fans are surely in for a treat.

On top of the new stories, players will also be treated to a slew of brand-new features. Dragonriding will finally be unlocked worldwide, a new follower dungeon system will let solo players complete dungeons alongside NPCs, a new Azerothian Archives event will be added, the zone of Bel'ameth will be introduced, and a brand-new dragonriding cup within Outland will begin.

Season 4 Begins in the Spring

After the Seeds of Renewal, Dragonflight's fourth season will kick-off in the spring. The season will bring with it new PvP and Mythic+ rewards as well as revised versions of Dragonflight's raids. This season will build upon the Fated Raids introduced at the end of Shadowlands, so players can expect some exciting new twists within their favorite raids.

This season will be launching with the mysterious update 10.2.6. The roadmap displays this patch with a simple pirate flag, but no one really knows what that means. The community has been theorizing that it may be a Pirate-themed WoW patch, however, Blizzard has not said anything about it nor does the roadmap provide any additional details. So, fans will just have to wait and see what the studio has planned.

At the end of spring, Dragonflight will get one more update called Dark Heart. This update will include a new Timerunning Pandamonium event. A new Harbinger questline, Troll and Draenei heritage armor, and a brand-new Holiday event. Blizzard has not revealed the exact specifics of this content, but once 10.2.6 launches, it will likely shed some light on what all of this means.

The worgen are World of Warcraft's version of werewolves, but the race also has a complex and action-packed origin.

The War Within is Right Around the Corner

The War Within Hype Train Begins Rolling This Spring

After Dragonflight concludes with patch 10.2.6, all eyes will be on WoW's next expansion. That hype will begin building sometime in the spring with the launch of The War Within's alpha. Only a select few players will be able to experience this version of the game, but the minute it starts, the community will be talking about everything coming with the expansion until it finally releases.

Then, the summer season will kick off with The War Within's beta followed by the pre-patch. The War Within's pre-patch will introduce new world events that will set the stage for what is to come, the intriguing Warbands feature, dynamic flight which will give countless flying mounts their own version of dragonriding, and various guild updates. If this follows the model of past pre-patches, then players should be in for a pretty fun time-limited event.

The War WIthin Officially Launches this Summer

Most pre-patch updates tend to last for a couple of weeks, so there is a strong chance this one does as well. Once it finally comes to an end, The War Within will officially hit store shelves. And with its launch, World of Warcraft will never look back.

The War Within is set to introduce so much exciting content for players to explore. For starters, it will feature a brand-new story that will start the Worldsoul Saga. This story will see players venture into the depths of Azeroth and discover a brand-new world underneath the surface. Four unique new zones will be waiting for them, filled to the brim with stories waiting to be discovered and items waiting to be collected.

Along with the new story and new zones, The War Within will also bring with it the Earthen allied race. This will be the first neutral allied race in World of Warcraft, and it seems to resemble dwarves made out of rocks. This new race not only gives players another customization option, but it also means new racials and heritage armor. The only way to unlock them is to finish the main campaign, so it will be a bit before players get a hold of them.

The War Within will also introduce a feature known as hero talents, which should give players even more power to play with. Additionally, eight new dungeons and some brand-new raids will be added, while a new PvP season will begin. If it is anything like Dragonflight, then players should expect a wild ride.

New Stories and Content to Cap off the Year

As of now, it looks like World of Warcraft's final 2024 update will come in the autumn in the form of patch 11.0.5. This update will introduce new stories and quests, new content, new systems, and the game's 20th anniversary event. Since this update is a way off, it will likely be a while before Blizzard talks about it.

Along with all of that content, players should expect a few surprises throughout the year. Not only will they be treated to new Trading Post cosmetics every single month, but Blizzard will also be introducing new cash shop items regularly. Additionally, the studio began tapping into Twitch drops last year, so there will probably be plenty more in store throughout the year. All of this makes it an exciting time to be a fan of Azeroth, and as long as the content is engaging, then the game should have an extremely strong year ahead of it.
