Summary
- Fishing is the most important profession in World of Warcraft, connected to Cooking for raids and supplies.
- Unique fishing poles like Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole and Arcanite Fishing Pole are prized possessions.
- Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole is a high-level raid gear with buffs, obtainable through reputation.
No matter how many expansions or remakes Blizzard throws at World of Warcraft, Fishing is always going to be the most important profession. It's connected to Cooking, an essential skill when it's time to cook for the weekly raid or stock the bank with supplies for the low-level characters.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic - All Starting Zones, Ranked
With the fallout from World of Warcraft Classic: Cataclysm, several starting areas got upgrades, and two new areas were added to the game.
Cataclysm has all of the Fishing poles released in Classic WoW so far, and some of them are worth having just for their unique look. For those who are participating in a Fishing competition, like the Stranglethorn Fishing Contest or the Kalu'ak Fishing Derby, it's nice to have one of the following poles and triumph with style.
6 Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole
A Reward For A Fishing Quest
- Item Level: 20
- Buffs: +25 Fishing skill
- How To Acquire: Requires Fishing 225 and completion of the quest "Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme."
This is a plain-looking pole, but it's of rare quality and has a nice buff, handy for those who are still leveling the skill. Before the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, the "Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme" quest was mandatory to train beyond 225 Fishing. This is no longer the case, but the quest still exists if players don't mind some sightseeing.
Travel to some far-flung locations in Azeroth and return with four rare fish in exchange for this fishing pole along with Nat's eternal friendship. If fans misplace their pole, return to Nat at any time and he'll be happy to give them a new one.
5 Arcanite Fishing Pole
A Random Reward From The Northrend Fishing Quest
- Item Level: 20
- Buffs: +40 Fishing Skill
- How To Acquire: Requires 300 Fishing, a reward for winning the Stranglethorn Fishing Contest
This is one of the most difficult accessories to acquire in the game, let alone one of the most rare fishing poles. It's the prize awarded to the player that first delivers 40 Tastyfish to Riggle Bassbait, a Goblin NPC in Booty Bay.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic - Where To Find Mountain Trout
If you need help hunting down Mountain Trout in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic, this guide can point you in the right direction.
A lot of players compete in this contest not only for the coolest fishing pole available but also for the Achievements. These include "What A Long Strange Trip It's Been," which rewards the coveted Violet Proto-Drake mount, and getting the "Salty" title.
4 Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000
A Quest Reward For Hunting Turtles
- Item Level: 50
- Buffs: +20 Fishing skill
- How To Acquire: Requires 100 Fishing skill and completion of a quest in the Hinterlands
A decent pole for players in the level 40 to 50 range, it does seem odd that a fishing pole is a reward for turtle hunting, but here we are. Alliance players will look for Dron Blastbrew and the quest "Snapjaws, Lad!" While Horde players should travel to Revantusk Village on the coast and speak to Katoom the Angler about "Snapjaws, Mon!"
If you lose or destroy this fishing pole somewhere between WotLK and Cataclysm, it's possible to return to the quest-giver, kill a few turtles again, and get the same reward. The location of the turtles is still the same, wandering along the eastern shoreline.
3 Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole
A Reputation Reward From The Tuskarr
- Item Level: 200
- Buffs: +30 Fishing skill, Underwater Breathing
- How To Acquire: Character level 80, Fishing skill of 300, Exalted with the Kalu'ak
It's a fishing pole with a high enough level to be raid-gear, and the only one in the game of an Epic quality. Considering how many buffs and requirements this item has, it's fairly simple to acquire by getting an Exalted reputation with the Kalu'ak people.
For those who love the aesthetic of Northrend, it's essential to have. The pole has the same distinctive style as the local Kalu'ak tribe, which also has its own version of a fishing contest, the Kalu'ak Fishing Derby.
2 Bone Fishing Pole
Perfect For A Forsaken 'Toon
- Item Level: 15
- Buffs: +30 Fishing skill
- How To Acquire: Requires 300 Fishing, a random reward from the Fishing quests
The spinning reel on this rare pole is a skull with glowing eyes, which is cool or creepy to be staring back at the player depending on the type of game being played. After finishing any of the Fishing quests, fans will be rewarded with either a Bag of Shiny Things or a Bag of Fishing Treasures, and this fishing pole has a chance to be inside.
In the Burning Crusade expansion, this was only available from the Outland fishing quests offered in Shattrath, which were the highest level at the time. In Cataclysm, it's possible to acquire it from any fishing quests provided the character has 300 Fishing or higher.
1 Jeweled Fishing Pole
The Bling In Dalaran
- Item Level: 15
- Buffs: +30 Fishing skill
- How To Acquire: Requires 300 Fishing, a random reward from the Fishing quests
Anyone who's anyone in Northrend has the Jeweled Fishing Pole. The description calls it "a Tiffany Cartier original" making this the most stylish rod in the game even if it isn't the rarest or highest level.
Like the Bone Fishing Pole, which is also randomly found in the same reward bags, this was only available from the Dalaran quest-giver in WotLK. These days it can be found in either bag as long as the character has the required level, and it's just as good for showing off as it is for fishing.
