World of Warcraft has confirmed the item level cap for crafted gear in Season 1 of The War Within, implying that it won't lag behind too much compared to fully-upgraded Myth pieces. With the pre-expansion content for The War Within now live, the team at Blizzard Entertainment is slowly setting the stage for the Worldsoul Saga, a three-part chapter that will decide the fate of Azeroth and celebrate the first twenty years of storytelling in World of Warcraft.
The War Within will release on August 26, 2024, and will take players on an underground adventure set on the forgotten continent of Khaz Algar. Whereas Dragonflight was a departure from the overall direction of Shadowlands and Battle for Azeroth, The War Within continues the trend of developing evergreen features (such as Warbands), all the while focusing on the key strengths of World of Warcraft. Crafting will once again play a substantial role in The War Within, and the item level cap of crafted gear will be set to accommodate the expanded Myth track.
World of Warcraft Explains How Character Services Work With Warbands Character Select Screen
The new character selection screen in World of Warcraft: The War Within changes how Level boosts, Race Changes, and other paid services work.
Confirmed by Blizzard Entertainment on the official World of Warcraft forums, the item level cap for crafted gear in The War Within will be 636, which only sets it three item levels behind a fully-upgraded Myth piece obtained from Nerub'ar Palace. Players who exclusively do Mythic Plus dungeons in World of Warcraft can only receive a Myth track item via the Great Vault, and due to expanding the number of Myth track upgrades from 4 to 6, there was a growing concern that crafted gear would become trivial in The War Within. Thankfully, Blizzard has laid those fears to rest – even if the expanded Myth track does notably lengthen the process of upgrading gear.

Although Blizzard hasn't shied away from making changes to World of Warcraft professions, the overhaul established in Dragonflight will largely stay the same in The War Within, apart from removing Inspiration in favor of introducing Concentration. World of Warcraft players should expect a fully-upgraded crafted item to fetch a heavy price at the Auction House, as the new Concentration will be a limited resource for crafters.
For the most part, World of Warcraft players that enjoyed the endgame experience in Dragonflight will find themselves in a familiar place with The War Within. Though Blizzard will no doubt look for player feedback during launch, it's likely that any major changes (if necessary) will come after the first raid tier of The War Within.
