With only a few safe settlements available to the population, supplies are rare, and space even rarer. People rely on the skill of a few who dare to take on the zombie-infected streets and scavenge for food and medicine.
Avoiding slow-moving zombies is one thing, but the infection has evolved and created other variants of undead, from toad-like creatures that spit toxic sludge to angry hulking monsters. The most dangerous of all comes out at night. Volatiles are near-unkillable creatures that emerge after the sun goes down. Completing a nighttime run means being quick, agile, and skilled at parkour and close combat. In reality, most of us wouldn’t survive very long at all.
