The long history of World of Warcraft continues to unfold with the latest Cataclysm expansion, which includes some new diversions for those players who enjoy the Secondary professions. Fishing is one of Azeroth's most popular "mini-games" and now that the world has expanded yet again, there are several new fish to find, and one is the elusive but delicious and useful Mountain Trout.
Searching for and collecting Mountain Trout isn't just a useful way to grind up through the new Fishing level and gain access to fun new trinkets and gear, it's also used to grind up the Cooking skill. Every character benefits from food buffs, and for raiding and other endgame content, so it's another essential Secondary skill.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic - Best New Recipes For Illustrious Cooks (And How To Get Them)
Looking to level Illustrious Cooking and get new recipes in WoW's Cataclysm expansion? Here's how.
Illustrious Grand Master Fishing
Find A Trainer In Any Major City
- Upgrade from Grand Master, the maximum in Wrath of the Lich King
Before your search for Mountain Trout can begin, you need to max out the previous fishing skill, Grand Master. It's still possible to go fishing without it, but this won't raise your Fishing skills, which is part of the goal.
In the previous expansion, only the trainers in Northrend could teach a character this specific Fishing skill. After the Cataclysm expansion, however, every trainer in any major city, including the neutral ones, has Illustrious Grand Master available in their inventory.
The Feathered Lure is a handy consumable trinket that players can make using their Cooking skill. It raises the character's Fishing skill by +100 for 10 minutes. This recipe requires a Cooking skill of 450 to learn and costs three Chef's Awards.

Where To Find Mountain Trout
Easy To Find In Hyjal And Western Azshara
- Unlock Mount Hyjal at level 80 with the "Hero's Call" quest
It's posisble to get a ride from Orgrimmar, Stormwind, or Moonglade the first time a character visits, but there's also a handy portal in both faction's capital cities that goes there directly. The waters between Mount Hyjal and Azshara often have pools of Mountain Trout, but other than this possible exception, Mount Hyjal is the best place to find this useful fish.
This is a level 80 area where many players come to start progressing to the new level cap, so it's easy to get some Fishing done at the same time. The lower level of Mount Hyjal, which is typically one of the first new areas players visit, also makes it more accessible.
World of Warcraft Cataclysm Classic: Archaeology Guide
Archaeology is a secondary profession in Cataclysm Classic, and here is how this unique skill works.
After the node fades away, players can continue to fish in calm waters and find other fish such as the Striped Lurker, Sharptooth, and Highland Guppy.
- Nordrassil. This idyllic location by a small lake is in the northeastern part of the zone and is the starting point for the quest chain. A small lake nearby has numerous schools of Mountain Trout. Given that this location is near a neutral settlement, for those on a PvP server, it's safer than most other locations.
- Doom's Vigil. Even in this shadowy location, there's some water to be found, and therefore Mountain Trout. Head slightly east to fish on the border of Azshara.
- Gates of Sothann. A peaceful lake similar to Nordassil and even bigger, but in a more dangerous area.
- The Circle of Cinders. A lake and river make this an ideal spot with plenty of space to fish, should you share the space with other players.
- The Regrowth. The eastern part of this section has a big lake filled with Mountain Trout, but mind the hostile mobs.
- The Shrine of Goldrinn. Fish from a small and peaceful lake easily reached from the Shrine of Aessina flight path to the east.
- Sulfuron's Spire. Even the fiery heart of Hyjal has a small pool of freshwater that contains Mountain Trout. It's on the southern central part of the massive lava pool.
