In WoW Classic and Season of Discovery, there are some enemies that can only be skinned at max level with a Skinning level above the normal profession limit of 300. But the problem is, you can only get to 305 with the Skinning enchant on the Skinning Knife – that is, unless you replace it with Pip's Skinner.
WoW Classic & SoD: Onyxia's Lair Attunement Walkthrough (Alliance)
To get Onyxia attunement in WoW SoD, Alliance players need to undertake one of the longest – and most frustrating – quest chains in the game.
Pip's Skinner is a half-decent pre-BiS dagger for Rogues, but the main reason players want it so bad is because it is the only item in the game that can bring your Skinning level to 315, when enchanted. This guide covers how to get Pip's Skinner in WoW Classic & SoD, and what exactly you must do with it to be able to skin the hide off of some of the game's most iconic bosses.

In WoW Classic and SoD, Pip's Skinner is a Dagger that has a pretty fast attack speed and damage, but that's not why it's so highly sought-after. When equipped, it grants +10 to your Skinning skill, which can raise your Skinning ability over the Max Profession level of 300.
This might seem inconsequential at first, but there are several dungeon and raid bosses at max level that cannot be skinned except by players with 315 Skinning. Onyxia is the big one, whose scales are necessary to create gear for Blackwing Lair later in endgame progression. But other bosses, like The Beast in UBRS, can only be skinned if you reach this requirement.
To get 315 Skinning in WoW Classic and SoD, equip Pip's Skinner to bring your skill up to 310, and enchant it to improve your skinning skill by a further +5. Unfortunately, you can't just let this sit in your bag and gain the +10 – it must be equipped when you go to skin Onyxia and other endgame bosses.
WoW SoD: Best Phase 4 Runes, Ranked
Though there aren't many overwhelmingly powerful new Runes in Phase 4, WoW SoD players still have some great new Runes to try out.
How To Get +10 Skinning Knife in WoW Classic & SoD
To get Pip's Skinning Knife, WoW Classic and SoD players should first head into LBRS. Pick up the quest "Seal of Ascension" from the Scarshield Infiltrator, an NPC hiding above Hordemar City that transforms into a friendly quest NPC when you walk close. This quest unlocks UBRS attunement after you collect an Unadorned Seal of Ascension and three Gemstones from bosses within LBRS.
You can also join a group with someone who has completed UBRS attunement to enter Upper Blackrock Spire, as only one group member needs to be attuned to unlock the entrance. But it's best practice to become attuned yourself to not rely on other players and create groups faster.
Once attuned, enter UBRS with your group and progress through the second half of the elaborate Blackrock Spire dungeon until you reach The Beast. The second-to-last-boss, The Beast is a gigantic Core Hound that has a relatively low chance to drop Pip's Skinner on defeat.
Once you finally get Pip's Skinner for yourself, you can actually skin The Beast once it's been killed. Doing this frees the knife's owner – Pip Quickwit, a gnome dressed in a deep-sea diver suit who was swallowed by the Core Hound.
