It's no secret that the original version of WoW is sorely lacking major quality-of-life features. Even with all the changes of the Season of Discovery, vanilla WoW lacks features like a modernized UI that can display stats correctly (and completely), and the ability to track and locate SoD quest objectives without relying on players to decipher quest text.
WoW SoD: All Patch Notes
This guide to all SoD Patch Notes covers all official WoW SoD Patch Notes as well as hotfixes that may go undocumented, starting with Phase Two.
Addons significantly improve the experience of playing MMOs, and the best WoW SoD addons can make the Season feel much more rewarding and understandable. Whether you want to improve the questing experience, automate basic actions like repairing, have a functional Bag UI or get prompts for Raid mechanics, there are lots of SoD addons to choose from – but these seven are the best.
7 Leatrix Plus (& Leatrix Maps)
Quality Of Life, And Then Some
One of the most useful quality-of-life mods for vanilla WoW, Leatrix Plus is still a must-have addon for the Season of Discovery. It offers a suite of options that give much more control over the game's UI and backend systems, like the ability to mute specific sounds, automatically repair and sell Trash at vendors, show the time remaining for Flight Paths, and customize a variety of UI elements' size and location.
Leatrix Plus is a great addon on its own, but its creator also made another incredibly useful addon for classic WoW: Leatrix Maps. This addon lets you customize the fog of war, show locations for Flight Paths in the world, and generally customize your World Map with a variety of visual and other updates. There's a sore lack of customization options in vanilla WoW, but these two addons offer a bit more control over the UI.
6 Better Bags
Organize Your Bags By Category
The bag system of vanilla WoW can be visually off-putting, and requires players to carefully sort items piece by piece to have any sense of organization. Better Bags is a complete overhaul of the bag and bank UI that automatically sorts items into a variety of categories, completely streamlining inventory management in SoD.
WoW Season of Discovery - What Class Should You Play?
All nine classes in World of Warcraft Classic got major updates in the Season of Discovery – but which class should you play in SoD?
Better Bags will organize your inventory into sections like Consumables, Reagents, Crafting Materials, Armor, Weapons, and Junk. Though it doesn't quite sort all the new items in the Season of Discovery correctly, it does let you create custom categories and assign items to them for future organization.
5 Immersion
Don't Just Accept Quests – Interact With Them!
The Immersion mod is one of the best classic WoW addons for players who love the game's storylines. This addon replaces the traditional box of quest dialogue with a new popup featuring a model of the NPC you are talking to, and a dialogue box that makes it easier to read and parse the information being given.
It's very easy to skip past quest text and miss what makes WoW stories so immersive, but with the Immersion addon, players have time to take things line by line and feel more involved in these stories. Instead of a beige box with a block of text, it makes picking up quests feel like you are actually talking to an NPC.
4 Extended Character Stats
Display All Hidden Stats With Customizable Sections
One of the most frustrating thing about classic WoW for players looking to max out their characters' stats is the lack of information given in the Character screen. Normally, you can only see your basic stats and some secondary stats like Attack Power and Block Chance, depending on your class. But stats like Hit Chance, Crit Chance, Crit Damage, and many others are not directly viewable.
WoW Season of Discovery: What Are Waylaid Supplies?
Waylaid Supplies are a new WoW SoD unique item that grants reputation and a small chunk of rewards, which scale when filled with specific items.
Extended Character Stats adds a new window to the Character screen that displays all of this information. You can customize which stat groups are visible – if you normally DPS in SoD, you probably don't care about your Healing stats, for example – and have a much easier time calculating whether a piece of gear is actually an upgrade without having to simulate the build outside of the game.
3 Ranker
Plan PvP Progress Professionally
PvP is a core feature in the Season of Discovery, and with each Phase comes a new SoD level cap, new vanilla battlegrounds open up, and of course, new open-world PvP events like the Battle for Ashenvale or the Blood Moon in STV are added. But the way that Honor works in SoD is different than in vanilla WoW, which was already relying on a complex and enigmatic system to calculate PvP ranks.
With the Ranker addon, a new button appears in the Honor screen that shows a much more detailed look at your progress in PvP. With Ranker, you can see exactly what Rank you will be by the time the PvP reset comes each week based on your current Honor.
You can also set a target Rank and see how much Honor you need to get to reach it. The base game doesn't provide an easy way to tell your progress in PvP each week, so if you plan to engage with PvP significantly in SoD, Ranker is a must-have to be efficient.
2 Deadly Boss Mods
A Must-Have For Every Raider
In addition to new PvP events (and everything else new in SoD), each new Phase introduces new PvE content in the form of revamped Raids. In Phase One, we got a Raid version of Blackfathom Deeps for the Level 25 bracket. In Phase Two, Gnomeregan has been turned into a Raid for Level 40. But because these Raids are revamps of old content, players can't rely on their previous knowledge of how to run these dungeons.
Deadly Boss Mods is an all-in-one suite that guides players during Raids and other PvE content in classic WoW. It's one of the most popular SoD addons because of just how useful its prompts are for new players and veterans alike.
WoW Season of Discovery: Best SoD Runes, Ranked
Of the best Runes in WoW SoD for each class, some are more iconic – or simply more powerful – than other classes' most powerful Runes.
During boss fights, DBM will alert you on mechanics that must be followed. When an enemy needs to be kicked, it will remind you. When you need to avoid an AoE pool, it warns you. And when you eventually down the boss, it plays a customizable sound effect in victory. And it's regularly updated for SoD, too, able to lead players through Gnomeregan's mechanics less than a week after Phase Two launched. Ultimately, DBM is just as useful for new players as it is for regular Raiders because it's as intuitive as it is customizable.
1 Questie
In vanilla WoW, there is no quest log, and the only indication players get of where to go comes from pointers in the quest text. After having been around for more than 20 years, many players have had their fill of classic WoW flavor and just want to get the quests done.
Questie is one of the best addons for SoD because it adds a full-fledged quest tracker to the game. Questie shows your objectives in a retail-like side window, highlights quest locations on your map, and displays quest information on targeted mobs themselves.
For SoD Questie also provides hints on how to get the new Runes for each class, too. This can be toggled off to preserve a sense of discovery, but it is really useful for quickly catching up on your Runes for SoD alts.
