The WoW Classic (and Season of Discovery) Onyxia attunement quest chain is lengthy and difficult to complete thanks to lengthy escorts and other players competing to initiate dialogue with certain NPCs. For the Alliance, Onyxia attunement is one of the longest quest chains in the game, and requires several escorts, a lot of travel, and several max-level dungeon runs.
WoW SoD: Complete Blackrock Eruption Event Guide
The Blackrock Eruption event is now in World of Warcraft's Season of Discovery, and here's everything you need to know.
In Season of Discovery, Onyxia's Lair was added as new content made available two weeks after the launch of Phase 4, and players are scrambling to complete the Onyxia attunement in time for the raid to open up. This guide covers the entire Onyxia attunement questline for Alliance players, including where to start the Ony attunement in the first place, and a step-by-step walkthrough of each major step in the extremely long Ony attunement chain.
How To Start Onyxia Attunement (Alliance)
To begin your Onyxia Attunement quest, Alliance players should head to Morgan's Vigil, in the deep southeast of the Burning Steppes. You can get here relatively easily by following the mountain pass from Redridge Mountains in the north, a few minutes' ride on your Epic Mount north from Lakeshire.
Speak to Helendis Riverhorn to pick up "Dragonkin Menace", the first quest in the Ony Attunement quest chain. Head out into the eastern Burning Steppes and kill one Black Drake, fifteen Black Broodlings, five Black Dragonspawn and Wyrms, then return to Helendis.
Complete Alliance Onyxia Attunement Walkthrough – Step By Step
Step One: Talking To Everyone In "The True Masters"
After turning in the first Onyxia's Lair Attunement quest in Morgan's Vigil, you will be given the follow-up quest "The True Masters". Helendis Riverhorn will give you a note to deliver to Highlord Bolvar Fordragon, inside of Stormwind's throne room.

To unlock Molten Core, follow this guide to the WoW Classic SoD MC attune quest walkthrough, which highlights the raid's location and how to get in.
Head to Stormwind to the northeastern side and enter Stormwind Castle to find Bolvar standing next to Anduin and Lady Ketrana Prestor. Give Bolvar the "Solomon's Plea" note, then talk to Prestor. Talk to Bolvar one final time to be directed back to Morgan's Vigil to speak with Marshal Maxwell.
Step Two: "Marshal Windsor" to "A Shred Of Hope"
Marshal Maxwell will give you the next quest in the chain, "Marshal Windsor". Windsor is being held captive inside of Blackrock Depths, inside of a cell found within the very first area of the massive dungeon. Form a group and head to BRD, as it is difficult to solo this part of the quest, even if you are able to Stealth.
In BRD, enter the central hallway, then go forward and to the right to enter the ring around a central room with lots of Dark Iron Dwarves and the Sorceress boss. Marshal Windsor can be found in one of the right-hand-side cells in this loop.
After talking to Marshal Windsor in his cell, he will direct you back to Marshal Maxwell at Morgan's Vigil. Leave the instance, and without resetting (to avoid having to clear more mobs), turn in this part of the quest. To continue the Alliance Onyxia Attuement quest, head back to Blackrock Depths and kill enemies until one of them drops a Crumpled Note.
Interact with the Crumpled Note to get the next Ony Attunement quest, and return to Marshal Windsor. He will give you the quest "A Shred Of Hope", and direct you to recover two pieces of intelligence that were taken by two bosses within BRD: General Angerforge, and the Golem Lord boss.
WoW SoD: All Blackrock Depths Quests
Blackrock Depths is in World of Warcraft's Season of Discovery. Here are all the quests in the dungeon.
Either use the Shadowforge Key or open the door with Lockpicking that leads to the East Garrison. Open the Shadowforge Gate, then continue up the stairs. Go into the left hallway (left of the entrance to the Arena's spectator area), and continue through these halls until you reach a room with Fire Elementals and a stairway leading down.
Go down the stairs to find, and defeat, General Angerforge. Pick up the notes (and the Tarnished Undermine Real) that drops, then head back up the stairs and into the room directly opposite. Defeat all of the golems in the area, including the connected areas (you don't need to worry about clearing the hall that leads to the Grim Guzzler). If you leave any Mechanics or Golems alive in this room, they will attack your group when you engage the Golem Lord.
Clear the rooms, and defeat the Golem Lord to get the second Notes, then return to Marshal Windsor at the start of the dungeon.
Step Three: Marshal Windsor Escort Quest Walkthrough
The next part of the Onyxia Attunement questline has the potential to be one of the most frustrating in the game – if you don't plan ahead, and if your party members aren't on the same page. You are tasked to help Windsor escape BRD, and follow him around as he collects his gear, rescues his allies, and eventually makes his way out of the dungeon.
Before beginning "Jailbreak!" Make sure that everybody has turned int he previous quest step, "A Shred Of Hope". But when turning this in, do not automatically accept the next quest, as it begins the escort. If your party members have not turned in this quest, and you start "Jailbreak!", they will not be able to join the quest and will be locked out from the escort until you reset the instance.
The optimal way to approach the Marshal Windsor escort quest in WoW SoD is to clear out both of the loops in the Detention Block area at the start of BRD. The loop that Marshal Windsor's cell is connected to is particularly treacherous – clear everything in the loop, and make sure to open the Storage Door and defeat the enemies in here, too, as they will overwhelm you if not taken care of beforehand.
Kill everything in the loop where Lord Roccor roams, too, which is where Windsor walks after collecting his gear from the Storage Room.
WoW SoD: All Phase 4 Ring Runes – Effects, Locations, & Class Restrictions
There are a total of 15 Ring Runes in WoW SoD P4, but not all of these Specialization Runes can be used by all classes in Phase 4.
If you clear out the entire area that Marshal Windsor paths down during the escort quest, it will be significantly easier. Either way, make sure your group's Healer sets Windsor as their Focus Target, because if he dies you will have to do all of this set-up again.
But once you've cleared both loops, start "Jailbreak!". From then on, it's a simple matter of protecting Marshal Windsor as he walks around. He will path to the Supply Room first, then to the loop below the Ring of Law, then to the instance entrance. Each time you open a door for him, a miniboss will spawn, so make sure your group is ready to go when he asks you to unlock cell doors along the way.
Do not leave the instance after Windsor reaches the entrance at the end of this first Onyxia escort quest. If you leave, you will not complete the quest and will have to restart from "Jailbreak!".
Step Four: The Stormwind Escort & Onyxia's Reveal
After rescuing Marshal Windsor, return to Morgan's Vigil to meet up with Marshal Maxwell and begin "Stormwind Rendezvous". Head to the entrance to Stormwind and speak with Squire Rowe to summon Reginald Windsor. Speak with Windsor to begin "The Great Masquerade," the second escort quest in the Onyxia Attunement questline for Alliance players.
For this quest, you have to follow Windsor as he walks slowly to the Stormwind Keep and confronts Lady Ketrana Prestor. Once he arrives, after about a ten-minute-long walk from the Stormwind entrance to the Castle, Prestor will reveal her true form – the black dragon Onyxia.
World of Warcraft: How To Restore Items (& Why You Should)
Restoring items can be a lifesaver in World of Warcraft, and thankfully, the way to do this is the same no matter which version of WoW you're on.
A battle will ensue after Onyxia summons a slew of Dragonkin soldiers to the throne room. Either help the NPCs in the area defeat these enemies, or just let them do the work for you – Windsor and the rest of the Alliance heads in the room are pretty much fully capable of dealing with this portion of the quest themselves.
After the fight is over, talk to Bolvar Fordragn to complete "The Great Masquerade" and begin "The Dragon's Eye", the second-to-last quest in the extremely long Onyxia attunement quest chain.
Step Five: "The Dragon's Eye" & "The Drakefire Amulet"
To complete "The Dragon's Eye", you must find an NPC named Haleh, who is actually a Dragonkin in disguise. Haleh can only be reached by stepping on Runes on the ground at the end of the Mazthoril cave, found to the southwest of Everlook in Winterspring. This cave is filled with Elite enemies, so it's best to take on this part of the quest chain with a group. You can also Stealth past everything as a Druid or Rogue, or deathrun to the teleport area, to solo this portion.
Talk to Haleh to get "Drakefire Amulet", the final part of the Onyxia Attunement in WoW Classic and Season of Discovery. To complete this quest, you must go into Upper Blackrock Spire and defeat General Drakkisath, the final boss of the dungeon. To get into Upper Blackrock Spire, you must get the key by completing runs of LBRS for three boss-specific Crystals and the Unadorned Ceremonial Amulet.
The Blood Of The Black Dragon Champion item is a guaranteed drop from Drakkisath. Defeath the final boss of UBRS then return to Haleh to gain the Drakefire Amulet itself. By completing this final quest, you will be Attuned to Onyxia's Lair – but you must wear the Drakefire Amulet to enter the Raid.
Onyxia's Lair Location & Raid Entrance
The Onyxia's Lair raid entrance location is on the other side of the world from Blackrock Mountian, in Dustwallow Marsh. Head to Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands, then take the boat directly forward from the flight path to get to Theramore. Either swim across the channel heading southeast or take the path that winds around to reach Onyxia's Lair in the center-south of the zone's mainland.
You will know you have reached the correct location when you see what appears to be an enormous dragon's skull embedded in the ground, surrounded by elite Dragonkin enemies. The entrance to Onyxia's Lair is found inside the gigantic dragon's skull, which connects to a cave that leads to the instance portal.
Remember to equip your Drakefire Amulet to be able to enter the Raid.
