Every class in WoW has a DPS spec, and for the most part, every DPS spec has benefits and drawbacks. Some of the best DPS specs WoW players can choose are considerably more powerful than others in endgame content, though – and in high-level Mythic Plus or Raiding, being one of the best DPS classes WoW offers is a way to get into groups much, much faster.

Though a class may place highly on this WoW DPS tier list, some of their sub-specs may not perform as well, so be sure to check the specifics for each class' DPS spec rankings.

At the end of the day, no DPS class is outright terrible in TWW when played well, even those in the WoW DPS tier list B Rank below. But some are just easier to learn or consistently do more damage than others.

Mage, Death Knight, Shaman

Three of the best classes in The War Within for DPS are undeniably the Mage, Death Knight, and Shaman classes. Each of these three best WoW classes has at least two DPS specs to choose from. These three classes are lucky, though, as all of their spec options tend to perform exceptionally well in both the Nerub-ar Palace Raid and in Mythic Plus dungeons.

The exception to this is the Mage's Frost spec, which consistently places low in Raid and M+ DPS rankings while Arcane and, recently, Fire rank very highly in all PvE content.

The best spec to choose for Mages is the Arcane Spec, while Death Knights excel in the Frost Spec. Both of Shamans' specs place highly in raw DPS output, but of the two, Enhancement performs slightly better in most content.

Though there are three classes that can be considered the best DPS classes in WoW: TWW, these next five barely lag behind – and some of these A-Tier classes feature specs that outperform S-Tier classes.

The Rogue, Warlock, Warrior, and Demon Hunter have at least one decent-to-good DPS spec, but are more limited in choice thanks to specs that lag behind a little in terms of DPS output. Rogues, for example, have the extremely-high-performing Assassination spec, but Subtlety is about middle-of-the-pack in all forms of PvE content, while Outlaw is great for Mythic Plus but not so great in Raid.

Warlocks' Destruction spec performs very well as one of the best WoW: TWW DPS classes in both Raid and M+, but Demonology doesn't quite match up, and Affliction can be tricky to get going – a bit like the Priest's Shadow spec.

Even after some nerfs, both Warrior specs still make for good DPS in the hands of players who know what they are doing, especially the Fury spec, while Demon Hunters' sole Havoc spec sits at about middle-to-top-tier. DH characters tend to do well in Mythic Plus but lag behind a little in Raid.

Evokers are an interesting case. Their Augmentation spec is really a hybrid between DPS and Support, kind of like a Dungeons and Dragons Bard. It's to be expected that their DPS output lags, but they more than make up for that with the sheer utility they bring to a group. Devastation Evokers are middle-to-low-tier, but any group with an Augmentation Evoker who is played well will notice a serious difference in their groups' capabilities.

There are no bad DPS classes in World of Warcraft – though these five classes are listed here in the B Tier of this WoW DPS tier list, they are still perfectly capable of pulling competitive DPS in both Nerub-ar Palace and Mythic Plus dungeons. It just might take a little bit of extra work, or a little bit of extra preparation and class knowledge, to get there.

The Monk class' sole Windwalker spec, for example, is certainly not a bad DPS spec, but they are very squishy and have mid-rank DPS at the highest level of PvE content. Druids' Balance and Feral specs have the potential to climb up the WoW DPS rankings in PvE content, especially Balance in Mythic Plus content, but can be tricky to learn and maximize.

Paladins' Retribution spec is considered by some to be one of the easiest DPS specs for new players, and tends to do very well in Raid, but lags behind a little bit in Mythic Plus in terms of raw DPS output. All three of the Hunter class' DPS specs are currently sitting at average-to-low-tier, unfortunately, with Beast Mastery specifically being one of the worst DPS specs for M+ in terms of raw damage output.

Finally, like all the other B Tier DPS classes ranked here, Shadow Priests can easily perform extremely highly in all PvE content, but it can take this spec a long time to ramp up. Against single targets like bosses it's an absolute beast, but one misplaced Shadow Crash can mean bottoming the DPS charts while everyone else AoEs everything down without you.
