The War Within Release Date
It won't be much longer before you can get their hands on The War Within. If you have purchased the Epic Edition of the expansion, you will be able to play on August 22nd. This also includes owners of the Collector's Edition as well, which are expected to ship around mid to late July.
If you did not pre-order the Epic Edition or Collector's Edition, you will be able to play The War Within on August 26th which is its official release date. Once The War Within launches, the first season doesn't begin until September 10th. This will give you plenty of time to reach Level 80 on one or more characters before any of the endgame content releases. On both the 22nd and 26th of August, players will be able to access The War Within at 3 PM PDT (6 PM EDT).
Prepatch Release Date
As with any World of Warcraft expansion, there has always been a prepatch that added a lot of the systems and features that are part of the expansion. The War Within continues this tradition with a prepatch that will be released on July 23rd. This patch will add systems like Skyriding, Warbands, and improvements to the Spellbook/UI.
There will also be a special, limited-time event that will tie into the expansion as well. It is called Radiant Echoes, and it will involve fighting memories of old bosses like Ragnaros and the Lich King while earning unique rewards. This event doesn't start until July 30th, giving you plenty of time to get accustomed to all the new changes brought by the prepatch.
Keep in mind that there are some features that will not be available until the expansion launches. For example, you will not be able to unlock any Hero Talents yet as that requires being Level 71. Other features like Delves will not be available until you have started The War Within and have gotten far enough into the campaign to unlock them.
