Wreckfest 2, an upcoming racing game published by THQ Nordic, is set to roll out in early access on March 20, 2025. The long-awaited title is the sequel to 2018's Wreckfest and was first revealed at a THQ Nordic showcase stream in August 2024.

After the trailblazing success of Wreckfest, developer Bugbear Entertainment is gearing up to follow the original with a fitting second game titled Wreckfest 2, which is scheduled to land on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The demolition derby title, which requires the player to take out competitors by damaging their vehicles in order to win, will feature both single-player and online multiplayer modes. According to the game's website, Wreckfest 2 improves upon its predecessor's crash fidelity while offering reworked armor and damage systems. Recently, THQ Nordic introduced the original Wreckfest to some new players thanks to a massive price drop on the publisher's titles on Xbox, and now, it's dropping new information about the sequel.

The racing genre is filled with incredibly exhilarating and fast entries, but which series ranks as the most iconic with the best entries?

The Wreckfest 2 devs announced the game's March 20 early access launch on PC, along with a new action-packed trailer. In the company's post on Steam, the developers underlined some of the game's top features, ranging from a physics overhaul from the first game to a variety of racing circuits supporting up to 23 other players. The South Park: Snow Day developer further noted that additional cars and "other vehicles" will arrive in the game as it "evolves." Moreover, the accompanying trailer—which lasts for less than a minute—shows glimpses of the racing game's adrenaline-pumping moments in which derby cars crash into each other as well as into objects such as a large pile of tires.

Wreckfest 2 Early Access PC Launch Date

  • March 20, 2025

While THQ Nordic moves forward with the production of Wreckfest 2, there's another game in the same genre previously announced by the Austrian publisher that hasn't received an update in quite a long time. Interestingly, this other racing game has a near-identical title, dubbed Wreckreation. Since being unveiled in 2022, developer Three Fields Entertainment's open-world take on racing hasn't received a status update and is yet to get a release window, fueling rumors of a possible cancelation.

Although there's no word on Wreckreation, THQ Nordic could have another game besides Wreckfest 2, slated to make an appearance in 2025. In October 2024, the prolific publisher teased that its SpongeBob SquarePants game could hit the shelves very soon. Hopefully, another THQ Nordic showcase this year will make its 2025 release slate more clear.
