Wuchang: Fallen Feathers offers its own twists on many familiar elements, including numerous features players have come to expect from modern action games, even if the game could do a better job of presenting or explaining them. Changing outfit or armor appearance while keeping its stats, also known as transmogrification (or simply transmog), is available to Wuchang players from the start, yet it's quite easy to miss this useful and flexible function entirely.

This guide explains everything players need to know to start actively using the transmog system in Wuchang, gaining the benefits of stylish looks combined with the best defensive stats provided by armor.

How to Transmog Armor in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

Unlike many other similar games, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers offers almost no restrictions on transmog. Players can alter every element of their outfit at any time, at no cost, without needing to visit shrines or search for a specific NPC or resource to unlock the feature.

In Wuchang, transmog options are accessible directly from the equipment screen, where players choose what piece of armor to equip. By pressing the Y or Triangle button on the controller, or the F key on the keyboard, they can freely access the Alter Equipment menu. There, they can switch the look of each individual armor piece to any other previously unlocked design.

Players don't even need to have the armor pieces currently in their inventory to use their designs via the transmog system. If the piece was obtained once, its design will remain available forever, even if it's later sold to vendors.

Armor that has been altered will have a special icon attached in the right corner. Players can freely revert changes to the default look at any time by choosing the needed piece and pressing the X or Square button on the controller or the R key on the keyboard.

In addition, bonus extra outfits from pre-orders or the Deluxe Edition — White and Night Spectre, Soul Ritual Robe, Tiger of Fortune, Overlord's Regalia, and Draconic Resurgence — are also supported for transmog from the start, so their fancy designs can be applied to any in-game armor.

Unlike armor pieces, players can't change the appearance of their weapons, so the only way to wield the exact sword you like is to wield that exact sword.

Tips for Choosing the Right Armor for Combat Scenarios in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, armor usually falls into two categories: heavy and light. Heavy sets, like metal armor, provide better physical protection from melee weapons, largely reducing damage from Slash, Blunt, and Stab attacks. They also offer high Durability providing Tenacity — the ability to withstand enemy damage without being interrupted. On the other hand, light outfits provide much less physical defense and Tenacity but shine when it comes to elemental protection from Feathering, Magic, Fire, and Lightning, as well as grant high status resistances, significantly slowing the build-up of ailments like Corruption, Burn, or Blight.

Another thing Wuchang does differently from many other soulslikes is that armor doesn't have weight values and therefore doesn't influence the character in combat in any restrictive way. Players don't need to worry about running out of Stamina or becoming slower in combat when equipping heavy armor sets, so the only thing to keep an eye on is having appropriate defense values against each type of enemy attack.

While it's usually easy to identify what elemental attacks a boss is using in order to pick armor that offers the right protection, it can be trickier to figure out what type of physical damage your character is taking. Players are advised to identify their opponent's primary weapon as well — spears, swords, and axes each have their own damage type, and building the appropriate defense is always worth it.

In addition, remember to add another layer of protection by using proper Jade Pendants or weapon Benedictions if you're dying too quickly, as plenty of defensive options are available.
