In Wuthering Waves, combat is one of the core gameplay mechanics, with a large variety of enemies that can be encountered and battled as you explore the world and aim to complete objectives.

For this reason, knowing how the combat system works on a thorough level will enable you to master going head-to-head with enemies, and gain the most benefit for each Resonator and team composition that you select to use.

Wuthering Waves: Banners, Pulling, and Priority Guide

Wuthering Waves uses a Gacha mechanic called Convene, with a classic yet complicated Pity System explained in this guide.

Combat System in Wuthering Waves

Wuthering Waves features a very dynamic and engaging combat mechanic, which is without a doubt one of the most fun and enjoyable aspects of the game. Mastering this system may take a bit of time, but will be extremely worthwhile, enabling yourself to pull off some devastating combos, establish which characters work best and where, and give yourself a deeper understanding to use in character builds for your Resonators.

Attacks

  • Basic Attacks are the most consistent attacks that you will find yourself using in combat and are triggered with the left mouse button. Basic Attacks are always charged, and will not have a cooldown.
  • Basic Attacks will have varying speeds and styles depending on the Resonator and weapon in play.
  • You can hold the Basic Attack button to perform a Heavy Attack. Unlike Basic Attacks, Heavy Attacks will consume some of your stamina.

Dodging and Parrying

  • Every enemy has an attack pattern that they tend to follow, so mastering the timing of your dodge or parry can help you to set up a counterattack.
  • To dodge, you will need to time your dodge to the moment before an enemy strike hits with the use of the right mouse button.
  • To parry an attack, you will need to press your attack button (left mouse button by default) to the moment before an enemy strike hits you.
  • With a perfect parry, you may be able to stagger or paralyze the enemy, allowing for follow up attacks and combos.

Forte Circuit

  • Forte Circuits are one of two unique skills that every Resonator will come equipped with, with the charge for this meter shown directly above your character's health bar.
  • To accumulate charge in your Forte Circuit bar, you will need to deliver attacks to enemies. After the meter is full, you can press the key indicated at the end of the meter to activate your Forte Circuit and unleash a powerful attack, varying depending on the Resonator in use. The key or key combination that needs to be pressed to trigger a Forte Circuit may differ for each Resonator.

Resonance Skills & Resonance Liberation

resonance liberation
  • Resonance Skills are unique moves held by every Resonator. Resonance Skills typically unleash a powerful burst attack or ability with a timed cooldown after each use.
  • Resonance Skills are typically bound to the E key by default and will be blocked out after each use until the cooldown period has passed.

Intro & Outro Skills

  • Intro and Outro Skills are abilities that automatically trigger upon switching a Resonator in or out of battle.
  • When a character's Intro Skill is ready to use, an icon will appear over top of their character portrait icon on the right-hand side of the screen.
  • Once you are ready to swap in a character and use their Intro Skill, you will simply need to press the corresponding button assigned to each Resonator in your team, which will also be indicated to the left of their portrait icon. Upon doing so, the character will automatically perform their Intro Skill while switching in, and if capable, the character switching out will also perform their Outro Skill.

Echoes & Sonata Effects

  • Echoes are a type of collectible item that can be equipped with a Resonator to provide extra buffs and special skills.
  • To get Echoes, players will need to defeat enemies around the world. Some will leave behind glowing spectral forms named Echoes, which you can absorb to obtain.
  • You can equip one Echo to your main slot, and up to four additional Echoes in extra slots, as long as they are all within the Resonator's maximum total cost.
  • Echoes in the main slot will provide buffs, plus a special ability that the equipped Resonator can use in combat, varying between dealing damage, transforming into creatures, healing, and more.
  • Echoes in the additional slots will only provide their assigned buffs, not the extra skill such as the main Echo.
  • By equipping multiple Echoes with the same Sonata to a single Resonator, you may be able to trigger additional buffs known as Sonata Effects.
  • By combining Echoes that synergize well with one another or the skills of your Resonator, you will be able to drastically improve the value each character brings to combat.
