Almost all professional wrestlers lending their talent to games like WWE 2K25 barely make any money from it, according to living legend Ric Flair. The Nature Boy doesn't appear in WWE 2K25, as he's still under contract with rival promotion AEW, but he doesn't seem to mind being left out, at least from a financial standpoint.
The roster of WWE 2K25 is massive, featuring more than 300 wrestling legends and stars of today. Its DLC packs have continued the trend of adding classic wrestlers, with Bull Nakano, New Jack, and The Great Khali already joining the game, and '90s stars Mark Henry, D'Lo Brown, Victoria, and the New Age Outlaws set to arrive on September 17.
WWE 2K25 Was Supposed to Add Travis Scott, But Here's Why It Didn't
The popular wrestling title WWE 2K25 announces that the rapper Travis Scott is no longer coming to the game, and the reason is disappointing fans.
Only a Few Wrestlers Make Big Money From Video Games Each Year
In a recent interview with The Escapist, the 76-year-old, 16-time champion was asked whether he had been informed that he wouldn't be included in WWE 2K25 ahead of its launch. He responded that he wasn't surprised, given his current contract with AEW, but he also doesn't seem like he would have been bothered by the exclusion even if he were a free agent. That's because, according to Flair, only the cover stars of wrestling games in any given year get a substantial payment, while everyone else who lends their likeness gets "Maybe 0.3%." Given the three editions of WWE 2K25 released in March, that leaves some questions about who made big money off of the game this year.
If Flair's assessment of the gaming business is accurate, Street Fighter movie star Roman Reigns is definitely raking in the cash this year, being the cover star of the WWE 2K25 Standard Edition. Lending both his moniker and his image to the Deadman Edition, The Undertaker is likely on the shortlist as well. However, the most expensive version of the game, the Bloodline Edition, features a literal family tree, with Reigns at the top, and six other members of the Anoa'i wrestling family below him, alongside on-again, off-again Bloodline allies Sami Zayn and Paul Heyman.
Flair admittedly doesn't play video games, stating in the same interview that he's terrible at them and that he's a "bad loser," so he prefers to leave them to his kids. Still, he likely has a better understanding of how wrestling games are made than most people, considering his long history of starring in them. He's been in about 30 wrestling games since 1990 and has also lent his vocal talents to the Command & Conquer series, though he's never had the privilege of standing front and center on a game's cover.
