Fans have been uncovering hidden details and secrets in WWE 2K23 all week long, and now it’s been revealed that the game’s commentators will notice if players are standing still for too long. While WWE 2K23 isn’t set to release in full until March 16, players who pre-ordered the Deluxe and Icon versions of 2K’s latest wrestling sim have had early access since Tuesday - and have kept themselves busy diving into WWE 2K23’s many match types and game modes in the days since. In that short time, would-be grapplers have spotted several neat glitches, details, and unlockables while playing WWE 2K23. For example, players looking to recreate the recently reformed team of Ricochet and Braun Strowman can give the pair their impressive tag team finisher, while solo fans looking to strike out on their own in WWE 2K23’s MyRise mode might spot an amusing reference to superstar Sami Zayn’s days on the indie circuit. Even WWE 2K23’s referees have been getting in on the fun, as fans have discovered that these virtual officials change how fast they count a pinfall attempt after one too many bumps in the ring. As it turns out, WWE 2K23’s commentary team has a few hidden secrets up their sleeves, namely in how they will call players out for standing around in the ring doing nothing. As noted in a video post by ThisGenGaming, current WWE commentators Michael Cole, Corey Graves, and Byron Saxton will start to make remarks about players if they stand idle for too long, with one of them suggesting that the player should hit pause the next time they want to take a break.
This is just one of the many wrinkles that Visual Concepts has put into WWE 2K23, which has been praised for building off the already solid framework of last year’s WWE 2K22 with notable improvements across the board. That particular entry was seen as a vast improvement from past WWE 2K titles in and of itself, and WWE 2K23 has implemented exciting new features like a new rivalry system for Universe Mode and a reworked 2K Showcase campaign that tasks players with defeating WWE 2K23 cover star John Cena as many of his most formidable opponents.
Commentary in WWE 2K23 is one of the many arenas that has been improved over past WWE games, with more varied dialogue based on the wrestlers who are currently competing in the squared circle. Should those wrestlers (or more accurately, the players controlling them) decide to stand around the ring instead of giving the fans the drag-out competition they came to see, the WWE 2K23 commentary team isn’t afraid to give them an earful and remind gamers that the pause button is there for a reason.
WWE 2K23 launches on March 17 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
