2K has a bad habit of shutting down WWE 2K game servers prematurely. WWE 2K22's online servers were shut down pretty quick, after all, and so many have long assumed that WWE 2K23 would suffer the same fate. A great deal of WWE 2K23's content revolves around its online functionality, and so to remove it is a devastating blow to the value of the game.
WWE Wrestler Asks for WWE 2K23 Change
A famous WWE wrestler comments on the recently released WWE 2K23, proposing a change that would improve the game's quality in his opinion.
Unfortunately, the listings for WWE 2K23 on the PlayStation Store and Xbox have confirmed that the game's servers will be shut down on Monday, January 6, 2025. Not only that, but the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game have already been delisted from digital storefronts, which could potentially happen to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of WWE 2K23 at some point as well. This is the downside to the increasingly-digital gaming landscape, as even big budget games like this could eventually become lost media. And even if that never happens, the games losing their online features makes significant content lost to the void forever.
When Are the WWE 2K23 Servers Shutting Down?

Now, there is a chance that 2K could push back its plans to shut down the WWE 2K23 servers. In fact, it was previously announced that the WWE 2K23 servers were shutting down on September 30. But that day came and went with the servers intact, so it's entirely possible that the same will happen on January 6. However, fans shouldn't hold their breath, and so it's best to prepare for the possibility that WWE 2K23 online functionality will be going away on that day.
There is some logic to 2K wanting to focus on future games and devoting its resources to them, but shutting down the online servers for games that aren't even two years old yet is not a good look. On the bright side, January 2025 shouldn't be a complete loss for fans of the WWE 2K franchise. Assuming 2K sticks to the pattern it has established with WWE 2K23 and WWE 2K24, it's highly likely that WWE 2K25 will be revealed by the end of January. Of course, it's also highly likely that WWE 2K25's online modes will be shuttered before the game's second anniversary, and so consumers will have to keep that in mind.
