Summary

  • Survivor Series is approaching with Team Cody and The Judgment Day facing off, but there have been other noticeable changes in WWE recently, such as Shinsuke Nakamura turning heel and speaking in Japanese.
  • Paul "Triple H" Levesque is reportedly actively working to change the perception that Japanese and Mexican wrestlers can't succeed in WWE, aiming for a more diverse and successful roster.
  • WWE 2K24 could potentially introduce a World Tour mode similar to Street Fighter 6, allowing players to explore different regions and wrestle famous wrestlers from around the world, further expanding the game's mechanics and pushing the franchise and WWE as a worldwide promotion.

Survivor Series is right around the corner, where Team Cody (Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso, Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn, Randy Orton) will face off with The Judgment Day (Damian Priest, Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh) and Drew McIntyre. However, it's not the only noticeable buildup, change, or happenings within WWE in recent months. Fans have certainly noticed how Shinsuke Nakamura turned heel and delivered promos in Japanese, while Damage CTRL has brought back in Kairi Sane and various members have spoken Japanese themselves. This was not a common sight when WWE was under Vince McMahon's creative direction, and the possible reason behind it could actually make for a great game mode in WWE 2K24 (or beyond).

According to WrestlePurists, current Head of Creative and Chief Content Creator Paul "Triple H" Levesque is "actively bothered" by the perception that Japanese and Mexican wrestlers cannot succeed in WWE. It seems there's a strong motivation to change that and to ensure there's a more diverse and active WWE roster, not just limiting them to jobbers or such, but to ensure that they succeed in the ring, on the mic, and in the eyes of the WWE universe.

WrestlePurists says it was not long after they received this information that Kairi Sane returned, that Dragon Lee was presented as a big time act, and so forth. While it's definitely something that's more important in the world of WWE than the realm of its associated video games, WWE 2K24 could adopt this notion as well if it were to take a page out of Street Fighter 6's World Tour Mode.

WWE 2K24 World Tour Mode

It should be noted that Street Fighter 6's World Tour Mode is effectively its story mode, and this is not an argument for World Tour to replace WWE 2K's MyRise game mode—but to be a new addition altogether. One could even argue that the WWE 2K23's The Lock MyRise story mode laid the groundwork for this because it sees the player character leave the WWE and wrestle in other places around the world. That, itself, could make a game mode where players are exploring the world of wrestling less as a story under WWE direction, and more of an acknowledged part of the world of wrestling. It would be great if there was a WWE 2K24 game mode that let players "travel" to Japan, Mexico, Germany, or even places like France to wrestle folks associated with this regions. It could be a training-like thing where the player character wants to master all sorts of wrestling, putting spotlight on famous Japanese wrestlers, famous Mexican wrestlers, and so forth.

One important part of the WWE 2K franchise is how it can take something from one match type or game mode and expand it later. For example, the various mechanics used for WarGames in WWE 2K23 could lead to other match types. In that same vein, if a World Tour Mode gave WWE a more open-like map where players would explore these regions, encounter these wrestlers, and learn more about these styles of wrestling, that could eventually translate to a more active movement system in MyRise. It's definitely a situation where one stone could kill two birds, while pushing the franchise in the game and WWE as a worldwide promotion too.

It would make a great, and altogether different, game mode for WWE 2K24. Of course, while WWE 2K24 is not yet confirmed, many decisions regarding its development have likely been decided, but perhaps this could still be worked in. Fans can reasonably expect WWE 2K24 to be revealed and released next year, and many will be looking at how it innovates on the formula established by WWE 2K22 and WWE 2K23. A new game mode focused on the World of Wrestling would ensure that WWE remains the top Wrestling Promotion in the world, but aid in changing the perspective that international wrestlers cannot succeed there by supporting them in the surrounding media. Again, it's more important that Triple H continues this obvious push in the real world, assuming this report is accurate, but ensuring that every aspect of WWE pushes this element would go a long way too.
