WWE 2K25 contains a surprising nod to Cody Rhodes’ days in AEW that many fans didn’t expect to see WWE acknowledge. The next installment in the WWE 2K series is launching soon, and players who preordered one of WWE 2K25’s special editions have already been able to play thanks to early access. The roster in WWE 2K25 is one of the biggest to date, with plenty of unlockable bonuses to be found in the game’s Bloodline Showcase and MyRise modes.
Some matches and storylines in these WWE 2K25 modes will naturally feature Cody Rhodes, the reigning WWE Universal Champion and currently one of the top superstars in the company. As many wrestling fans know, before Cody returned to WWE, he was one of the co-founders of All-Elite Wrestling, WWE’s biggest rival promotion. The timing between his eventual departure from AEW and his current run in WWE was tight enough that he actually managed to appear in both WWE 2K23 and AEW Fight Forever as a playable character due to the latter’s longer development.

Fast-forward to WWE 2K25, in which fans are noticing a surprising reference to Cody Rhodes’ time in AEW hidden in this year’s WWE 2K MyRise campaign. As noted by Reddit user DoubleFront8787 on r/WWEGames, players can unlock an alternate entrance for Cody in which he smashes Triple H’s stone throne with one of The Game’s signature sledgehammers. This is a reference to Cody doing exactly this at AEW’s Double or Nothing 2019 pay-per-view event as a swipe towards Triple H and the WWE.
WWE 2K25 Features Cody Smashing the Throne as an Entrance
This event would become extremely ironic after Cody Rhodes returned to WWE in 2022 and cemented his place as one of the company’s top performers by winning the WWE Universal Championship from WWE 2K25 cover star Roman Reigns two years later. More recently, Cody has drawn the ire of two other legendary WWE stars, The Rock and John Cena, the latter of which has his own special WWE 2K25 MyRise unlockable in the form of his invisible (and nearly invincible) ‘Super Cena’ persona.
Fans are surprised to see Cody’s infamous “throne-smashing” incident recreated in WWE 2K25, and are sharing some of the other fun alternate entrances to be unlocked in the game, like 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin driving down the entranceway in a monster truck. WWE 2K25 will launch in full on March 17, so it won’t be long before players who didn’t get one of the special editions can jump into MyRise and unlock these bonuses for themselves.
