After WWE 2K24 delivered its final DLC pack, many fans are anticipating the release of WWE 2K25 this year. The next installment of the popular franchise has already been revealed, and will feature WWE superstars like Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, and Liv Morgan. Fans can expect more announcements soon, especially since WWE 2K25 teased that it might share more on January 27.
Every year, WWE delivers different immersive experiences with its WWE 2K games based on iconic moments over the last year, as well as different eras that define the company's lasting legacy. As fans patiently wait for the official release date of WWE 2K25, past games could give them an idea of when to expect the next installment to come out.
It's the End of an Era for WWE 2K24
WWE 2K24 has released its final DLC pack, signaling the end of an exciting installment and opening the door to the next chapter.
WWE 2K25 Could Come Out During WWE's Biggest Event
Historically, WWE 2K games are revealed mostly during the first quarter of the year. There's also a trend with the last three games' release dates, starting with WWE 2K22, wherein they were consistently released during the first or second week of March. Because of this, many people believe that WWE 2K25 could follow this pattern, especially since 2K and Xbox have already shared the first playable WWE stars.
- WWE 2K22: Released on March 11, 2022
- WWE 2K23: Released on March 14, 2023
- WWE 2K24: Released on March 8, 2024
For the last three years, promotion for WWE 2K titles always started around the Royal Rumble season, which usually begins in mid to late January to build up the February premiere live event (PLE). It was around this time when WWE 2K24 revealed the cover stars, new game modes, and official release date.
Given how WWE 2K25 will likely make a huge announcement later this month, one could narrow down the release date to around the first or second week of March, just like in previous years. The next possible date would be April, which will be around WrestleMania season, but it's unlikely for WWE and 2K to deviate from their usual patterns.
Prior to WWE 2K22, 2K series games, from WWE 2K14 until WWE 2K20, were released every October. So, there's always a clear trend among the games' launches.
What WWE 2K25 Could Bring to the Table
WWE programming has had a lot of exciting moments in the past year, from Cody Rhodes beating Roman Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Championship, to the debut of the new WWE Women's Championship title belts. Not to mention that both WWE and NXT debuted many talented wrestlers, like Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, and Giulia, who could be added to the roster upon launch and via future DLC packs.

More importantly, John Cena is also having his retirement match during WrestleMania 41. WWE 2K25 might allow players to relive Cena's greatest moments in various match modes, as well as commemorative skins inspired by his looks from different eras. It could even have a Cena variant cover to celebrate his impressive career, which is a fitting homage to one of WWE's most popular and beloved wrestlers.
WWE 2K25 definitely has a lot of material to work with when it comes to building its roster, creating cosmetics, and adding new WWE match types that fans could enjoy. The developers have room to step up the next installment's gameplay experiences, ensuring that matches go smoothly, and character models look accurate to the real-life wrestlers. It should also continue improving its Create-a-Wrestler feature and give players more options to customize their characters' appearance and wrestling move set.
