Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson, collectively known as The Revival, have been released from their WWE contracts. This announcement was made earlier today by WWE, and at the time of this writing, neither Dawson nor Wilder have issued a statement.
The Revival were able to win all major male tag team championships in the WWE and were named NXT Tag Team of the Year in 2016. While they had resounding success in NXT, their move to the main roster saw them underutilized. Backstage reports have talked about The Revival being unhappy for quite some time, and it's no surprise that both members of the team disappeared from WWE television back in January.
It's unclear what The Revival will do next, but it seems that the most likely possibility is that they will be signed by WWE's competition, AEW. There has long been a social media rivalry between The Revival and AEW executives Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks, so AEW seems like the natural next step for them. A tag team match between The Revival and The Young Bucks is a dream match for many fans of tag team wrestling, and now there is a legitimate chance that it could actually happen.
Of course, it's also possible that The Revival will appear in other companies instead, like Ring of Honor, Impact Wrestling, or New Japan Pro Wrestling. Ultimately, fans of The Revival will have to stay tuned to see what's next for the decorated tag team.
