Yet Another Xbox Console Exclusive Teased for PS5

Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming survival action-adventure game Grounded 2 will likely be coming to PS5 eventually. The highly anticipated follow-up to 2022’s Grounded, the next entry in the series will be launching into early access on PC and exclusively on Xbox Series X/S on July 29. The first game was praised for its unique setting and engaging co-op gameplay, and fans are expecting much of the same from Grounded 2.

As before, players will take on the role of kids who have been shrunken to the size of bugs and will this time have to survive the perils of Brookhollow Park. Developer Obsidian has stated that Grounded 2 will feature a greatly expanded world with new biomes to explore, as well as mounts, more advanced base-building, and combat enhancements. Players will still have to contend with aggressive park denizens and environmental hazards, and they will be able to craft a variety of weapons and armor in order to come out on top.

About a year and a half after it released as an Xbox console exclusive, the original Grounded launched on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation, and it seems the same may be in cards for Grounded 2. In an interview with Eurogamer, Executive Producer Marcus Morgan was asked about eventually porting the sequel to devices other than PC and Xbox, specifically a potential PlayStation release. The developer responded cryptically, “Can’t talk about that right now. But I will say that Grounded 1 is on all of those platforms, so…”

Grounded 2 Will Probably Make Its Way to PS5 and Switch

As for the future of Grounded 1, Morgan stated that, while the studio intends to maintain the game and keep it available for players in the name of preservation, development attention will be turning to Grounded 2. The second game will henceforth be the focus of any new content and story expansions. “We’re pushing things forward with Grounded 2,” said Morgan. And to get fans of the series even more excited, the developer also revealed that there are already ideas for these future expansions and features being bandied about.

Whether this additional content ends up being added to Grounded 2 post-early access or makes its way into a potential Grounded 3, Morgan stated, is still uncertain. For now, with the sequel not even launched into early access yet, it’s still early days, but the possibility of a Grounded trilogy is not off the table.

Just how long Grounded 2 will remain in early access is also still an unknown. The first title maintained its Game Preview status for nearly two years, which gave the developers time to receive community feedback and make tweaks accordingly. That seems to be the plan for the follow-up as well, with Morgan concluding that Grounded 2 will be in early access “the appropriate amount of time to make it right.”
