Microsoft has unveiled new controllers based on The Outer Worlds 2, which can be purchased at the Xbox Design Lab just a few weeks before the game hits store shelves. The Xbox Design Lab controller options include some top case options that utilize key art for The Outer Worlds 2. Players can choose between a Standard or Elite Xbox Wireless Controller with this new design.

As the sequel to 2019's The Outer Worlds, the next RPG from Obsidian builds upon a few elements from the first game. While themes such as mega-corporations and choices will still play a part in the game's overarching story, The Outer Worlds 2 takes place in a space colony called Arcadia. The Outer Worlds 2 also features new companions that players can recruit throughout their space-faring escapades. Much like how The Outer Worlds ran on Unreal Engine 4, The Outer Worlds 2 will utilize Unreal Engine 5 as its core. But, given the critique that Unreal Engine 5 has received, it remains to be seen how consistently The Outer Worlds 2 will perform.

New Xbox Design Lab Controllers Put The Outer Worlds 2 in the Spotlight

Three weeks before The Outer Worlds 2 hits store shelves, Xbox players can purchase new, customized controllers inspired by Obsidian's upcoming RPG. The Xbox Design Lab options for The Outer Worlds 2 are now available for fans to design and purchase. The Standard Xbox controller options start at $94.98, with the Elite version starting at $184.98, both before any taxes are applied. All Xbox Design Lab controllers are compatible with Xbox consoles and Windows PCs. The Outer Worlds 2 editions of the Xbox Standard and Elite Wireless Controllers feature The Moon Man as a top case, with the Elite controller having additional Moon Man side caps. Players can further customize The Outer Worlds 2 controllers' buttons, thumbsticks, bumpers, triggers, and D-Pad to their liking.

Compared to the lowest-priced Xbox Design Lab controller, which starts at $79.99, the Moon Man option for the controller's main body is a $14.99 markup, along with a $3.99 price increase for metallic Storm Gray triggers. The price tag of The Outer Worlds 2 standard controller places it in a similar range to competing offers from manufacturers like 8BitDo, which collaborated with Microsoft on a Rare 40th Anniversary controller design.

As for the Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller, additional back paddles and D-Pad styles can be added on, though this could result in the controller costing over $200. The Outer Worlds 2 Xbox controllers are expected to ship over the coming weeks, though delivery times may vary.
