Microsoft has now confirmed the Xbox free Games with Gold for May 2021, giving players a $79.96 value and the opportunity to unlock 4,000 Gamerscore.
For the Xbox One games, Xbox Live gold subscribers can download Armello for free from May 1 to May 31 and Dungeons 3 from May 16 to June 15. Armello is described as a "fairytale board game" that mixes card games and tabletop strategy games with RPG mechanics. The game was originally funded on Kickstarter and earned mostly positive reviews at the time of its release in 2015. Dungeons 3, meanwhile, is a real-time strategy game where player work for the evil Dungeon Lord. It released in 2017 and earned mixed reviews at the time of its launch.
As for the Xbox 360 games, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can claim LEGO Batman for free from May 1 to May 15. LEGO Batman is one of the earlier LEGO video games from Traveller's Tales, and it was generally well-received when it first launched in 2008. It's often hailed as one of the better LEGO video games in its style, and so it may be one of the more significant games in the free Games with Gold for May 2021 lineup.
And finally, Xbox 360 gamers can claim Tropico 4 for free from May 16 to May 31. Part of the long-running Tropico series, Tropico 4 earned mostly positive reviews when it first launched in 2011. There are newer Tropico games readily available, but playing Tropico 4 for free through the Xbox Games with Gold program could be a great way for those who have yet to try the series to see if it's something that's up their alley or not.
The Xbox free Games with Gold for May 2021 are unlikely to generate all that much excitement, as LEGO Batman, a game from 2008, is arguably the headliner of the lineup. However, it seems Xbox Live Gold subscribers are so far more positive about the May 2021 lineup than they were the April 2021 lineup. Fans weren't happy about the Xbox free Games with Gold for April 2021, and it's clear that Microsoft is much more interested in using games to bolster its Xbox Game Pass service than Games with Gold.
Speaking of the Xbox free Games with Gold for April 2021, subscribers still have some time to claim those titles as well. Hard Corps: Uprising and Vikings: Wolves of Midgard will both be free to claim until April 30, whereas Truck Racing Championship will be available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers until May 15.
