Xbox Game Pass adds Broforce Forever today, an updated version of the game that comes with an "improved and expanded campaign with new unlocks," alongside new bros to play and challenge levels to tackle. Indeed, this side-scrolling run-and-gun game may have missed July 4th by about a month, but its over-the-top patriotism and ridiculous presentation make it a fun game to play through. The Broforce Forever update just pushes all of that to the next level.

In Broforce Forever, players take control of a hypermasculine, ultra-patriotic action "Bro" who fights terrorists and rescues other bros; each level has an almost American-styled Mario ending, where players defeat a boss, hoist an American flag, and exit via helicopter to explosions. It's over the top and dumb, which is precisely why it's so fun. The various Broforce characters are all parodies based on characters like Rambo, Chuck Norris, Mr. T, T-800, John McClane, Ellen Ripley (Bro is gender neutral here), and so forth.

With about 50 reviews accounted for on review aggregate site OpenCritic, it's worth noting that the reviews reflect the dumb and fun nature of Broforce Forever. It currently sits with a "Strong" OpenCritic Rating, with a Top Critic Average of 79 and 63% of critics recommending the game. It has a handful of reviews that are 9+ and a smaller handful that is around the 5-mark, meaning mileage may vary. But even the worst reviews acknowledge the game is fun and point their criticisms at technical issues, limited gameplay, lack of depth, and more. Therefore, it sounds like a great game for some mindless escapism with some 'Merica personified, but maybe not so much for those who are wanting something deep in terms of story, gameplay, and so on.

Xbox Game Pass List (August 2023 - 8th-10th)

xbox game pass bro force
  • Today - Broforce Forever (All Game Pass Platforms)
  • August 9 - Limbo (All Game Pass Platforms)
  • August 10 - Airborne Kingdom (All Game Pass Platforms)

Of course, this is but one game joining Xbox Game Pass this week. August 9 will see the addition of Limbo, which is not only critically acclaimed but is an award-winning title. Broforce may not be so deep, but Limbo is one of those games that truly push video games as an art form with intensive puzzles, immersive visuals, and an otherwise dark and enjoyable nature.

While Limbo may be deeper than Broforce in presentation, its gameplay is perhaps as lacking in depth. Of course, depth in a game easily varies from title to title, as some games require more than others, but those wanting something with a lot of gameplay depth will get that on August 10 with Airborne Kingdom. It's a city-building management game, where players control a kingdom in the clouds, and there's nothing deeper gameplay-wise than intensive simulators.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers get a handful of games every month.
