In a rare move, Microsoft has revised an existing list of Xbox Game Pass removals, stating that the September 30 departures will be less numerous than originally announced. As things currently stand, only three titles are set to leave Xbox Game Pass at the end of September 2025.

The departures from Microsoft's popular subscription service are typically announced every two weeks, alongside the regular Wave 1 and 2 lineup announcements. The latest of these catalog rotations was detailed on September 16, when four games were announced as leaving Xbox Game Pass at the end of the month: Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge, and Terra Invicta.

Terra Invicta Isn't Leaving Xbox Game Pass on September 30 After All

Six days later, Microsoft issued a correction stating Terra Invicta's departure was announced in error. The 4X strategy game developed by Pavonis Interactive will not leave the subscription service just yet. Consequently, only the three Team Ninja titles are set to depart at the end of the month. The trio enjoyed a relatively long stint on the service for third-party titles, having been added to Xbox Game Pass as part of the Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection in June 2022.

Terra Invicta originally joined Xbox Game Pass in late March 2024, approximately 18 months after first launching in early access. It's still a Game Preview title as of today, available only via PC Game Pass. According to its Steam FAQ page, developer Pavonis Interactive is aiming to keep it in early access until late 2025. That timeline may yet shift, depending on the Colorado-based studio’s progress in finalizing the game.

Microsoft revising an already announced list of Xbox Game Pass departures is a rare occurrence. However, it is not entirely without precedent, and has actually happened twice in a span of just a few months now. Previously, the Xbox app listed Atlas Fallen as leaving Xbox Game Pass on August 15, but that designation proved inaccurate, with Focus Entertainment's action RPG still remaining on the service as of today, six weeks later.

Microsoft did not elaborate on the circumstances that led to Terra Invicta being erroneously listed as leaving on September 30. One possibility is that the listing wasn't a mistake at all, and that Xbox and publisher Hooded Horse reached a last-minute licensing agreement to keep the title on the service for longer. Another is that Terra Invicta is still set to leave in the coming weeks, and the departure notice was simply published prematurely.
