Summary

  • Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is now available on Xbox Game Pass.
  • Dungeons of Hinterberg will also join the service later today, July 18.
  • While both of these latest XGP additions are RPGs, they cater to fairly different sensibilities.

Xbox Game Pass members can play Dungeons of Hinterberg and Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn as part of their subscriptions starting today, July 18. These arrivals further bolster the ever-growing selection of RPGs on Xbox Game Pass.

Microsoft has so far added eight titles to its subscription service since the turn of the month. Half of those were day-one releases, the most recent of which arrived on July 16, when Xbox Game Pass added Flock and Magical Delicacy.

That duo is now being followed by Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn and Dungeons of Hinterberg. The former is already available to Microsoft's subscribers, having launched at 3am ET on July 18. Meanwhile, Dungeons of Hinterberg is scheduled to reach Xbox Game Pass by 11am ET. That's according to its release time estimate on Steam, as such approximations on Valve's storefront have historically been an accurate indicator of Xbox Game Pass release times.

As for the July 18 game that's already available to play, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is a semi-open-world soulslite that tasks players with killing a bunch of gods in an eclectic fantasy setting. The project comes from A44 Games, a New Zealand studio that previously made a distinct-looking ARPG Ashen. Looking at its early reviews, many critics have praised Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn for its fast-paced gameplay and exploration while bemoaning its somewhat lackluster character-build variety. Overall, the game has been received fairly well, as underlined by its OpenCritic aggregate score of 70.

Dungeons of Hinterberg doesn't have too many reviews from which to glean insights right now. But some RPG fans may already have a pretty good idea of what to expect from this release, not least because Austrian developer Microbird had already treated it to an extensive playtest back in May 2024. The Best War Games participated in that Dungeons of Hinterberg preview and found the game to be a cozy mixture of Zelda-like dungeon crawling and Persona-style socializing. Its cel-shaded graphics are another distinct selling point, having been inspired by the art style of Jean "Moebius" Giraud, a renowned comic artist known for his surreal landscapes, vivid colors, and complex linework.

Following these arrivals, at least one more title will be added to Xbox Game Pass before the end of the month. That will be Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, Capcom's action-strategy hybrid that's scheduled to reach the service on July 18. Two more titles are rumored to be coming to Xbox Game Pass in late July, with a recent insider report suggesting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is one of them.
