Xbox Game Pass just added Valheim, a popular multiplayer survival game that will no doubt eat away quite a few hours from someone's life, but its newest addition trumps that : Civilization 6. This entry in the ever-popular series of Firaxis' Sid Meier strategy games pushes the granularity of each and every tactical decision, resulting in a playtime that is massive.

Of course, it should be noted that hours of content is only one of many factors in a game. More content doesn't make a better game, nor does a short game equate to a bad one, and strategy games typically end up on the longer end by design. For strategy game enthusiasts with Xbox Game Pass, Civilization 6 clearly has a lot to offer.

A typical match of Civilization 6 can take upwards of five hours to complete, depending on various settings and the number of civs in the game, but for someone looking to finish solely main objectives, it'll take about 22.5 hours according to HowLongtoBeat.com. Per that same aggregator though, someone wanting to see all aspects of the new Xbox Game Pass game and explore as much content as they can spend 293 hours at least to do so. That number can easily hit 300 or surpass it. Leisurely completionist playthroughs, meanwhile, can take several hundred hours - up to 800 or 900 in extreme cases.

Civilization 6 is a great addition to Xbox Game Pass, but it also comes at an interesting time. Civilization 6 has been out for nearly six years now, with Firaxis constantly supporting the game's post-launch content with new game modes, new leaders, and more. Indeed, Game Pass subscribers may be wise to check out some of Civilization 6's DLC, though it's worth mentioning that this content will not be available via Xbox Game Pass. Firaxis isn't one to rest on its laurels though, as it recently announced that the next entry in the franchise is in the works.

Civilization 7 is in development, though that's all that's currently known about this next entry in the franchise. In February, the official Twitter account posted "Hot off the presses. Next Civ game in development!" Firaxis Games studio head Heather Hazen described it as going to "exciting new heights" with the franchise, but what that will look like remains to be seen.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers get a handful of games every month.
