Microsoft is planning to add 19 new titles to Xbox Game Pass in September 2024, a well-known leaker has said. This claim suggests that September is on course to become the most release-packed month of 2024 for Xbox Game Pass.
Such a content-rich schedule would stand in stark contrast to August 2024, which is currently shaping up to be the quietest month of the year for Microsoft's subscription service up until now. Specifically, the company has so far confirmed or announced just six titles for this month, or seven if counting the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 beta that's scheduled to reach Xbox Game Pass on August 30. SOPA: Tale of the Stolen Potato might bring that number up to eight if it doesn't miss its August 2024 release window, which it might, seeing how it's still without a release date as of August 23. For reference, the least eventful Xbox Game Pass months of the year so far were May and July, which only had 12 new titles each.
Xbox Game Pass Reportedly Adding 19 New Games in September 2024
The pace of new Xbox Game Pass releases might finally pick up again in a few weeks' time, according to Spanish YouTuber eXtas1s. During one of his recent videos, the long-time leaker said that Microsoft is planning to add 19 new titles to its subscription service over the course of September 2024. 17 of those will be day-one games, as per the same source. This claim suggests that there are 15 XGP releases planned for next month that Microsoft has yet to reveal. The remaining four that have already been announced are Star Trucker, Age of Mythology: Retold, Frostpunk 2, and Ara: History Untold, all of which are day-one titles.
Xbox Game Pass Confirmed September 2024 Releases
- September 3 - Star Trucker
- September 4 - Age of Mythology: Retold
- September 20 - Frostpunk 2
- September 24 - Ara: History Untold
If this information were accurate, September would end up setting a new 2024 record for the number of Xbox Game Pass releases in a single month. That title currently belongs to April 2024, which saw the service add 17 games to its ever-expanding catalog. Granted, Microsoft immediately offset most of those releases by removing 14 titles from Xbox Game Pass in May 2024.
How Many Games Xbox Game Pass Added in Each Month of 2024 (So Far)
- January: 13
- February: 14
- March: 14
- April: 17
- May: 12
- June: 14
- July: 12
-
August: 6 (so far), or 7 if counting Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 beta
- SOPA: Tale of the Stolen Potato is still MIA, but should be releasing this month as well
- September: 4 confirmed, 19 rumored in total
The notion of Microsoft doubling down on day-one releases in September dovetails with the company's upcoming changes to Xbox Game Pass tiers; starting September 12, the service will introduce a new Standard plan for consoles that doesn't include day-one games. Xbox One and Series X/S users will hence have to upgrade to the Ultimate edition of the service to continue getting access to new day-one releases.
In the run-up to that overhaul, Microsoft retired the old Xbox Game Pass for Console tier back in mid-July 2024, though existing subscribers still have access to it. Should the company indeed end up introducing 17 new day-one titles in September, such a move would help it highlight the benefits of upgrading to XGP Ultimate.
