After some slower months, Xbox Game Pass looks like it's getting ready to kick things up a gear or two for its September 2024 line-up. At the time of writing, there are already seven games confirmed for Xbox Game Pass' September 2024 line-up, five of which are day-one launches. This is quite a significant step up from Game Pass' August offerings, where just two of its seven additions were day-one releases.

That being said, Xbox Game Pass' September 2024 line-up might be a tad divisive. While Game Pass' monthly drop tends to deliver experiences from a variety of different gaming genres, this month is catering primarily to fans of two quite specific genres: strategy and simulation.

Xbox Game Pass packs a lot of value into its subscription model — here are all the details you need to know, from price to recently added games.

Xbox Game Pass Is Catering to Strategy and Simulator Fans This September

Xbox Game Pass Has Three Day-One Strategy Games This September

  • Age of Mythology: Retold - September 4 (Console, PC)
  • Frostpunk 2 - September 20 (PC)
  • Ara: History Untold - September 24 (PC)

Probably the most exciting set of day-one releases Xbox Game Pass has seen in quite some time, Age of Mythology: Retold, Frostpunk 2, and Ara: History Untold are all set to hit the subscription service on their respective launch dates. All three of these day-one Game Pass launches belong to the strategy genre, but all follow a slightly different approach to gameplay.

Age of Mythology: Retold is a remake of the 2002 Ensemble Studios real-time strategy classic. An offshoot of the Age of Empires series, Age of Mythology takes a more fantastical approach to medieval real-time strategy, tasking players with creating a town, managing their resources, and conquering the neighboring players' villages with an array of different old-time-y and fantastical warriors.

Frostpunk 2 is the much-anticipated follow-up to 11 Bit Studios' 2018 dystopian city-builder. Here, the player's only goal is to keep their steampunk city and its inhabitants alive through a new ice age, which requires some difficult decisions and plenty of grim sacrifices. Ara: History Untold, on the other hand, is a 4X strategy game in a similar vein to Civilization.

Xbox Game Pass Is Adding Three Simulator Games This September

  • Star Trucker - September 3 (Console, PC)
  • Expeditions: A MudRunner Game - September 5 (Console, PC)
  • Train Sim World 5 - September 17 (Console, PC)

The other bulk of Xbox Game Pass additions this September come from the simulation genre, specifically the vehicle sim sub-genre. Star Trucker is a day-one title for Xbox Game Pass this month that's being developed by just two people. Star Trucker puts a Sci-Fi twist on the truck sim formula that's become something of a cult phenomenon over the last few years, tasking players with shipping cargo across the galaxy, looking after their space rig, and manually mapping out their route through the stars.

Expeditions: A MudRunner Game was originally released back in March of this year, and it received pretty solid reviews at the time for its slower-paced, satisfying sim exploration gameplay. Train Sim World 5 is the latest entry in Dovetail Games' surprisingly extensive transportation-oriented sim series. Train Sim World's first entry was released in 2017, and it's been a non-stop train of releases since, with mainline entries dropping almost every year, and expansion packs dropping even more frequently.
