One of 2025’s (and every preceding year’s) most hyped games, Hollow Knight: Silksong by Team Cherry has been added to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as a day-one launch title. Microsoft’s subscription service has continually offered an enticing value proposition for gamers who like to have a lot of options at all times, particularly Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, whose rotating library includes some titles as soon as they launch.
Silksong was first announced in 2019 as an expansion to the award-winning Hollow Knight but evolved into a standalone sequel. And the wait has been long for fans who fell in love with Team Cherry’s kingdom of Hallownest and its insectoid protagonist. After a few delays and nearly six years of anticipation, gamers finally received a definitive release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong: September 4, 2025.

Xbox Game Pass Adds Hollow Knight: Silksong on Launch Day
The long-awaited game is available on multiple platforms, including Switch and Switch 2, but Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be able to play Hollow Knight: Silksong at no additional cost when it launches on September 4. Of course, it’s highly likely that most fans will purchase the game themselves, not only to support the developer but also because of its appealing price tag of $19.99. But for anybody who may have skipped Hollow Knight and therefore aren’t as excited as their peers about Silksong’s release, the game’s availability on Xbox Game Pass is an ideal way to discover what all the hype is about.
In Hollow Knight: Silksong, players will get to take control of Hornet, the former princess of Hallownest, from the first game. After she is captured and taken to a new land called Pharloom, she will venture through the new release's Metroidvania environments, taking out hundreds of new enemies and bosses with her expanded moveset and needle attacks. Silksong also features a number of new mechanics like crafting, multiple hub towns, traps, and NPC quests that have many gamers intrigued.

Xbox Game Pass has plenty of other incredible games scheduled for September and October 2025. Just the day before Silksong’s release, Nine Sols, a 2D platformer that has actually been compared to Hollow Knight, was added to the catalog. Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor will join the lineup as a day-one release on September 17, and Frostpunk 2, which has been available on PC Game Pass since it launched in September 2024, will release on Xbox Series X/S on the 18th. There are also several awesome day-one titles to look forward to in October for Ultimate subscribers, including Ninja Gaiden 4, The Outer Worlds 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
